Name things that make a route easier to use.

Vocabulary Builder · B2
Accessible Routes, Constraints, and Evidence
Choose precise language for route access, limitations, confirmed facts, and details that still need checking.
Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้
For learners: You will learn one vocabulary category at a time, notice the word type and useful collocation, and create your own sentence before combining the categories.
For teachers: Vocabulary use is the main outcome. Route information is only a context for accurate word choice; extended speaking and route adaptation are optional.
สำหรับผู้เรียน: เรียนคำศัพท์ทีละหมวด ดูชนิดคำและคำที่มักใช้ร่วมกัน แล้วแต่งประโยคใหม่ก่อนนำทุกหมวดมารวมกัน
สำหรับครู: เป้าหมายหลักคือการใช้คำศัพท์อย่างแม่นยำ ส่วนสถานการณ์เส้นทางเป็นเพียงบริบทประกอบ
Your goal
By the end of this lesson, you can retrieve and use at least two new chunks from each category in accurate collocations and original sentences, then choose at least six chunks across all four categories for a short route recommendation.

Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class
Vocabulary Builder standard: Teach one category at a time. For every category, the learner must retrieve the chunk, notice its word type, complete a useful collocation, and create two original sentences before moving on.
Teacher: Teaches access-feature noun phrases and their common verbs.
Student: Retrieves and uses at least two feature chunks.
Teacher: Teaches constraint noun phrases and subject–verb collocations.
Student: Retrieves and uses at least two constraint chunks.
Teacher: Contrasts evidence-status adjectives and verb phrases.
Student: Uses at least two status chunks accurately.
Teacher: Checks the subject and meaning of three decision verb phrases.
Student: Uses at least two decision chunks accurately.
Teacher: Gives a short route card, scores vocabulary use, and permits one retry.
Student: Produces four to five sentences with at least six chunks across all categories.
Feedback rule: Correct word choice and collocation before discourse style. Give one successful chunk and one replacement, then allow one focused vocabulary retry.
How to use this Vocabulary Builder
Repeat the same four-step cycle for each category. Do not combine categories until the learner passes each checkpoint.
Use words for helpful route features
These noun phrases name things that make a route easier to use. Pair them with verbs such as use, choose, provide, include, or confirm.
← Swipe left or right to compare the chunk, word type, meaning, and collocation →
| Target chunk | Word type | Meaning | Useful collocation |
|---|---|---|---|
| step-free entrance | noun phrase | an entrance that does not require stairs | use / find / confirm a step-free entrance |
| level route | noun phrase | a route without a significant slope | choose / follow / provide a level route |
| rest point | noun phrase | a place where a visitor can pause | include / use / stop at a rest point |
- Retrieve all three chunks from the meanings.
- Complete two collocations: “provide a ______” and “stop at a ______”.
- Create two original sentences about a town route using two different chunks.
Teacher Help
Check the full noun phrase, including the adjective. Accept a simple sentence if the noun phrase and collocation are accurate.
Use words for route problems
These noun phrases name things that make a route harder to use. Use a clear subject and a verb such as has, creates, includes, or encounter.
← Swipe left or right to compare the chunk, word type, meaning, and collocation →
| Target chunk | Word type | Meaning | Useful collocation |
|---|---|---|---|
| steep gradient | noun phrase | a slope that may create difficulty | the route has a steep gradient |
| uneven paving | noun phrase | a surface that may slow or obstruct travel | visitors may encounter uneven paving |
| narrow passage | noun phrase | a route section with reduced width | barriers create a narrow passage |
- Retrieve all three chunks from the meanings.
- Complete two collocations: “The route has a ______” and “Barriers create a ______”.
- Create two original sentences about different route constraints.
Teacher Help
Keep the adjective and noun together. Correct broad words such as bad road only after the learner completes the first meaning.
Say what is confirmed or still needs checking
These chunks show whether information has been checked, a service cannot be used, or one detail still needs checking.
← Swipe left or right to compare the chunk, word type, meaning, and collocation →
| Target chunk | Word type | Meaning | Useful collocation |
|---|---|---|---|
| confirmed | adjective / past participle | checked and supported by evidence | the entrance is confirmed until 6 p.m. |
| unavailable | adjective | cannot be used now | the station lift is unavailable |
| requires confirmation | verb phrase | has not been checked yet | the final entrance requires confirmation |
Which sentence describes information that has not been checked?
- Retrieve all three chunks from their meanings.
- Create one sentence with an adjective and one with a verb phrase.
- Say why unavailable and requires confirmation are different.
Teacher Help
Do not accept unavailable when the information is merely unverified. Accuracy of evidence status is the main vocabulary check.
Explain why one option works better
These verb phrases connect a helpful feature, a route problem, or an alternative to the final choice. Match the subject to the meaning of the verb phrase.
← Swipe left or right to compare the chunk, word type, meaning, and collocation →
| Target chunk | Word type | Meaning | Useful collocation |
|---|---|---|---|
| meets the stated need | verb phrase | matches what the visitor asked for | the level route meets the stated need |
| poses a barrier | verb phrase | creates a practical difficulty | the steep gradient poses a barrier |
| provides a practical alternative | verb phrase | offers another workable option | the shuttle provides a practical alternative |
- Retrieve all four phrases from the meanings.
- Complete two collocations: “The ______ poses a barrier” and “The ______ provides a practical alternative”.
- Create two original decision sentences with different subjects.
Teacher Help
Check subject–verb meaning. A feature can meet a need, a constraint can pose a barrier, and a service can provide an alternative.
Use all four vocabulary categories
Now combine the vocabulary. The route details are short so the main challenge remains accurate word choice and collocation.
Visitor and route card
Visitor: Maya avoids stairs and needs one place to rest.
Riverside route: level route · rest point · barriers create a narrow passage · step-free entrance is confirmed until 6 p.m.
Market Hill route: shorter route · steep gradient · uneven paving · station lift is unavailable · final entrance requires confirmation.
← Swipe left or right to see all four planning columns →
| Category | Choose your chunks | Word type | Your sentence job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Helpful feature | ________________ | noun phrase | Name a useful route feature. |
| Route problem | ________________ | noun phrase | Name a route limitation. |
| What we know | ________________ | adjective / verb phrase | Show what is known or unknown. |
| Reason for the choice | ________________ | verb phrase | Explain the recommendation. |
- Select at least one chunk from every category and at least six target chunks in total.
- Write or say four to five original sentences: feature → constraint → evidence status → decision.
- Recommend one route in the final sentence.
- Check the word type and collocation of every target chunk.
- Complete one focused retry after vocabulary feedback.
Teacher Help
Score vocabulary first. Do not penalise a simple sentence structure when the chunk, word type, collocation, and meaning are accurate. Give one replacement and allow one vocabulary-focused retry.
Optional B2 Challenge · extended speaking and route adaptation
This extension is not part of the core Vocabulary Builder score. Compare both routes for 60–90 seconds, then adapt the recommendation when the Riverside path closes and a community shuttle becomes available.
Use although, because, or however only after the learner has passed all four vocabulary checkpoints.
Optional Listening Extension · not part of the core 30-minute route
Use these approved Amazon Polly Neural recordings only after the four vocabulary checkpoints or for homework. They are outside the core 30-minute score.

Hi, I’m Maya. I’m visiting the community arts centre for the afternoon exhibition, and I’ll arrive just before one o’clock. I can walk for about ten minutes at a time, but I need to avoid stairs. A level route matters more to me than the shortest route, and a bench halfway would help. I’m comfortable using a tram, and I can cross at traffic lights. Could you also check whether the final entrance is step-free and staffed?

Here is the latest access update for visitors to the Riverside Community Arts Centre. The level river path is still open, but maintenance barriers have narrowed the section beside the footbridge. The footbridge lift is unavailable this afternoon, so do not direct visitors across it. A step-free community shuttle now leaves from the public library every fifteen minutes and stops beside the staffed east entrance. The tram stop, library crossing, and two riverside benches remain open. Please compare this update with your first route, then confirm the safest practical plan for your visitor.
Listen once and list the target chunks by category and word type. Then create one new sentence from each category. Do not replace the core category practice or Final Practice with this extension.
