Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Describe yourself and a familiar person with simple character words and real everyday behaviour, then ask and answer in a short exchange.

For teachers: The sequence moves from choosing people and language to meaning discrimination, evidence-linked descriptions, interaction, adaptation and an independent retry.

Your goal

Use simple character words to describe yourself and one familiar person, connect each description to a real everyday action, ask one short question, and answer one follow-up without reading a script.

คำอธิบายเป้าหมายภาษาไทย

ใช้คำบอกลักษณะนิสัยง่าย ๆ เพื่อบรรยายตนเองและคนที่คุ้นเคย เชื่อมคำบรรยายกับการกระทำจริงในชีวิตประจำวัน ถามคำถามสั้น ๆ หนึ่งข้อ และตอบคำถามต่อเนื่องหนึ่งข้อโดยไม่อ่านสคริปต์

Why this lesson matters · ทำไมบทนี้จึงสำคัญ

For learners: Simple character words help you introduce people, build connections and explain what someone is like—not only what they look like.

For teachers: The lesson moves from word choice to observable everyday behaviour, then removes support for an independent two-way description.

Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class

This is a speaking lesson, not a reading lesson. Keep examples visible only long enough for the learner to select useful language. Accept short A1 sentences, correct after a speaking round and keep learner talk time above 70%.

1. Choose two real people

3 min

Start with yourself and one person you know well. Do not prepare a full answer yet.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Choose yourself.
  2. Choose one familiar person: a friend, family member, classmate or colleague.
  3. Say when or where you usually see this person.
Your turnI am __________. The other person is my __________. I see this person at/in __________.
You are ready whenYou can name both people and one real situation without a long pause.
Teacher help

Offer the four relationship choices if the learner hesitates. Ask “Who?” and “Where?” Do not ask for character words until Stage 2.

2. Explore useful speaking frames

5 min

Choose one line from each toolkit. Practise only the lines you will use.

A · Describe character

Use be plus one simple character word.

I’m …I’m friendly.
He’s / She’s …She’s kind.
My friend is …My friend is quiet.

B · Show it with an action

Add one real action that helps the listener understand.

I …I say hello to new people.
He / She …He helps me with my work.
because …She’s kind because she listens to me.

C · Keep the exchange moving

Ask one short question and listen to the answer.

What are you like? What are you like at work?
What is your friend like? What is your friend like?
Why?Why do you say that?
STUDENT TASK
  1. Choose two character words.
  2. Choose one action frame.
  3. Choose one question.
  4. Say your selected lines aloud once, then close the examples.
You are ready whenYou have useful frames—not a memorised paragraph.
Teacher help

Limit silent reading to one minute. Model only the learner’s selected frames. Check he/she and the final -s in a supportive recast, but keep the meaning moving.

3. Compare the meanings

4 min

Three positive words can describe different kinds of behaviour.

Character wordSimple meaningEveryday action
friendlywarm and easy to talk toSays hello to new people.
kindcares about other peopleListens when a friend is sad.
helpfulgives useful helpShows someone how to do a task.
STUDENT TASK
  1. Teacher says one everyday action.
  2. Choose the best word: friendly, kind or helpful.
  3. Give one new action for the same word.
You are ready whenYour word matches the action.
Teacher help

Use three concrete prompts and accept more than one answer when the learner can explain it simply. Ask “What does the person do?” before correcting vocabulary.

4. Build two true descriptions

5 min

Make one short description about yourself and one about the person you chose.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Choose one character word for yourself.
  2. Add one true action.
  3. Choose one character word for the familiar person.
  4. Add one true action for that person.

My sister is helpful. She helps me with my English.
Your two descriptionsI’m __________. I __________.
My __________ is __________. He/She __________.
You are ready whenBoth character words have a clear everyday action.
คำช่วยภาษาไทย

เลือกคำที่ตรงกับนิสัยจริง แล้วเพิ่มการกระทำหนึ่งอย่างที่แสดงนิสัยนั้น เช่น helpful → She helps me with my English. ประโยคสั้นและจริงเพียงพอสำหรับระดับ A1

Teacher help

Accept two short sentences instead of forcing because. Repair only errors that hide who the sentence is about or what the person does. Hide the model after the second description.

5. Exchange descriptions

4 min

Turn your descriptions into a short two-way conversation.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Describe yourself with one word and one action.
  2. Ask the teacher: “What are you like?”
  3. Listen to the answer.
  4. Describe your familiar person.
  5. Answer one teacher follow-up.
Short exchange
A: I’m friendly. I say hello to new people. What are you like?
B: I’m quiet at first.
A: My brother is funny. He makes us laugh.
You are ready whenYou describe, ask, listen and answer once.
Teacher help

Do not interrupt the exchange. Answer naturally in one short sentence, then ask only one follow-up such as “What does your friend do?”

6. Adapt for a different person

6 min

Keep the speaking skill, but change the person, character word or everyday action.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Choose a different familiar person.
  2. Use a different character word.
  3. Give a new everyday action.
  4. Ask a different short question.
  5. Run the exchange again with fewer visible prompts.
Adaptation frameMy __________ is __________. He/She __________. What is your __________ like?
You are ready whenYour second version is meaningfully different and still easy to follow.
Teacher help

Change one element at a time. Give five seconds of planning time, then keep prompts out of view. If the learner repeats a vague word such as nice, ask for one more precise word from Stage 2.

7. Show your progress

3 min

Final Practice: Hide the models and complete a fresh two-person description independently.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Describe yourself with one character word and one true everyday action.
  2. Describe one familiar person with a different character word and one true everyday action.
  3. Ask the teacher one short question.
  4. Answer one simple follow-up.
  5. After one feedback point, choose a different familiar person and repeat the weaker part more clearly.
Communication (COM)Make both people and their actions easy to follow; ask and answer once.
Vocabulary range (VR)Use suitable character words and connect each one to an everyday action.
Final performance (FP)Complete the fresh description and improved retry without a model.

Teacher scoring guide

Score the independent Final Practice—not the supported practice. Give one score for each Progress Focus.

0 · Not yetThe criterion is not demonstrated, even after one clear prompt.
1 · With supportThe criterion is partly demonstrated or needs a teacher prompt, model or supplied language.
2 · IndependentThe criterion is demonstrated clearly without a model or supplied language. Natural hesitation is acceptable.

Use the lowest focus as the retry target. Give one success and one improvement, then record the retry separately.

The lesson is complete whenYou complete both descriptions and improve one point in the retry.
Teacher help

Observe the complete first performance without interruption. Record observable evidence only, give one success and one next target, then name a new person category for the short retry.
