Framework A · Shared outcomes
Priority: cleaner air, safe public space, and wider pedestrian use.
Evidence: a two-street pilot recorded lower pollution and higher footfall.
Proposal: make the central square car-free within six months.
C2 · Analyse, integrate, reformulate, and defend
For learners: Use advanced English to expose hidden assumptions, represent competing frameworks fairly, and reformulate a complex debate as a precise conditional decision.
For teachers: This C2 mastery node closes TF27’s only missing CEFR level and extends the approved B2 proposal route through assumption testing, cross-context adaptation, listening response, framework integration, challenge response, and retry.
Uncover hidden assumptions in two competing frameworks, qualify the evidence and limitations in each, integrate their strongest principles, and reformulate the debate as a precise conditional recommendation.
For learners: Advanced argument is not simply choosing the stronger side. It means testing what each side assumes, preserving legitimate priorities, and replacing a false binary with a more accurate decision.
For teachers: The lesson produces visible evidence from reading, analytical language, cross-context adaptation, listening response, synthesis, challenge response, and an improved retry.
Keep transcripts and Thai support closed until needed. Do not reward complexity by itself. Collect evidence that the learner can expose assumptions, represent both frameworks fairly, integrate principles, and make a precise conditional recommendation.
| Time | Teacher does | Student does | Required evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–3 | Introduces the fictional public-square decision and two definitions of public value. | States the decision, stakeholders, and the strongest principle in each framework. | A neutral problem and two fair framework summaries. |
| 3–7 | Challenges the status of claims and premises. | Separates evidence, inference, value judgement, limitation, and assumption. | Two hidden assumptions and one qualified claim. |
| 7–12 | Introduces three short contexts. | Transfers the diagnostic sequence and reformulates one false binary. | One precise cross-context adaptation. |
| 12–17 | Plays both models with transcripts closed. | Reconstructs both spoken frameworks and asks one question that tests the disagreement. | A fair synthesis and one decision-relevant question. |
| 17–23 | Requires an integrated principle, conditions, safeguards, and review trigger. | Reframes the public-square debate as a testable conditional plan. | A precise integrated recommendation. |
| 23–30 | Observes, scores, challenges, then gives two precise feedback points. | Analyses a new case, performs independently, responds, and retries. | Two 0–2 scores and a stronger reformulation. |
Begin with a fictional city proposal. Represent both frameworks fairly before you criticise either one.
Priority: cleaner air, safe public space, and wider pedestrian use.
Evidence: a two-street pilot recorded lower pollution and higher footfall.
Proposal: make the central square car-free within six months.
Priority: accessible journeys, care work, deliveries, and small-business resilience.
Evidence: residents reported mobility barriers and traders predicted transition costs.
Proposal: retain mixed access until safeguards are proven.
Interrupt advocacy during this stage. If the learner says one side is simply “right”, ask them to restate the other framework’s strongest principle and the burden it is trying to prevent.
A strong claim can still rest on an untested premise. Identify what is observed, inferred, valued, limited, or assumed.
| Analytical move | Question | Precise language |
|---|---|---|
| Evidence | What was directly observed? | The pilot establishes that…, but only within… |
| Inference | What conclusion goes beyond the observation? | This may indicate…, although it does not demonstrate… |
| Assumption | What must be true for the reasoning to hold? | The argument presupposes that… |
| Value judgement | Which outcome is treated as most important? | The framework privileges… over… |
Ask “What must be true for that conclusion to follow?” Do not accept a restatement of the claim as an assumption. Require one missing fact that could genuinely alter the decision.
Use the same diagnostic sequence in three domains. The topic changes; the reasoning moves remain stable.
Scale and speed versus human judgement and learner agency.
System efficiency versus individual complexity and unequal access.
Wider opening access versus staff sustainability and service quality.
Reject vague blends such as “use both”. Require the learner to specify the condition, protected value, evidence threshold, or safeguard that makes integration meaningful.
Reconstruct each speaker’s framework, then ask a question that tests the premise separating them.
Listen for the framework, evidence, assumption, and unresolved burden.
Listen for the counter-framework, hidden premise, and conditional reformulation.
Keep transcripts closed. Play both audios once for framework meaning, then once for assumptions and conditions. Allow one additional replay only when the learner names the missing detail. Require one testing question before opening the transcripts.
Integrate the strongest principles without disguising the remaining uncertainty.
Environmental improvement is legitimate only when essential access and unequal burden are measured and protected.
Timed essential access, accessible shuttle support, delivery windows, and phased boundaries.
Review air quality, accessibility failures, business disruption, usage, and distribution of benefits.
Challenge decorative sophistication. If the learner uses abstract language without an operational condition, ask “What would the council actually do, measure, or change?”
Analyse a new case without the earlier model language, answer one pressure, then improve the reformulation.
New case: A fictional university must decide whether AI-assisted feedback should be used across first-year courses. One framework prioritises rapid access and consistent coverage; the other prioritises human judgement, context, and learner agency. A pilot reduced feedback waiting time, but participation was uneven and long-term learning was not measured.
Teacher challenge — choose one: Human feedback capacity falls by one third; students can opt out but receive slower feedback; or the pilot improves speed but not revision quality.
Score the independent performance before the improved retry.
Record one action-focused reason for the score.
Observe the complete first performance without interruption. Give one success note and one correction for each scoring dimension. Run the retry immediately with fewer visible prompts, and record whether the new conclusion became more precise, fair, or testable.
Neutral framing, assumptions, evidence limits, integrated principle, conditional recommendation, challenge response, and review trigger.
Language and precision: ___ / 2
Integrated performance: ___ / 2
Total: ___ / 4
What became more precise, fair, conditional, or testable?
