1. Build menu language

Group the words, then add one item you often order.

Use the visual to notice, practise, and communicate.

Main dishes

sandwich · soup · rice bowl · salad · noodles

Sides

fries · bread · fruit · extra vegetables

Drinks

water · coffee · tea · juice · soft drink

Changes

without sugar · no onions · extra ice · sauce on the side

2. Notice complete ordering chunks

Listen and identify the main item, drink, and requested change.

Engduo Audio • American English

Main: chicken sandwich
Drink: iced tea
Change: no onions

Engduo Audio • British English

Main: vegetable soup
Drink: small coffee
Change: without sugar

Useful beginnings: Could I have ______, please? · I’d like ______, please.

Useful changes: Can I have it without ______? · Could I have extra ______? · ______ on the side, please.

3. Make the quantity clear

Add a useful unit when one word is not enough.

One item

a sandwich · a salad · a coffee · an iced tea

A portion or container

a bowl of soup · a plate of rice · a glass of water · a bottle of juice

Quick check: Choose the clearer order.

4. Build your personal order

Choose one item from each row. Make one normal order and one order with a change.

  1. Polite beginning: Could I have / I’d like
  2. Main item and quantity
  3. Drink and size
  4. One change or preference
  5. please

Partner check: Repeat the order back. The customer says “That’s right” or corrects one detail.

Final practice: Choose and use the words

Complete the task without copying a model. The teacher observes the communication outcome before giving one focused correction and asking for a shorter retry.

Task: Make a complete order with one food item, one drink, and one change. Respond when the order is repeated back.

Success: The listener can repeat the correct items and change without asking you to start again.

VR · Vocabulary Range

1 Relies on a few general words or needs the answer list for most items.

2 Uses several suitable words with some repetition or support.

3 Uses a useful range of precise words independently in original communication.

FP · Functional Performance

1 Does not yet complete the main communication outcome.

2 Completes most of the outcome with prompts or one missing part.

3 Completes the full outcome independently and clearly enough for the listener to respond.

Teacher guide · 30-minute delivery
  • Confirm the learner outcome and connect it to one real use before opening every activity.
  • Use the first visual or audio for meaning before explaining language.
  • Select only the examples and phrases needed for this learner’s final task.
  • Run the guided stage with reduced support rather than reading every instruction aloud.
  • Complete Final Practice without interruption. Check meaning choice before form, then correct only the language that prevents clear use of the target words.
  • Record VR, FP separately from 1–3, give one focused correction, and retry the weakest part.
