What Changed, and What Happens Next?
Follow real-life updates: identify the old plan, the change, the reason and the next action.
Why this lesson matters
For learners: Timetables, rooms and events can change. Listening for the old plan, the new information and the next action helps you respond without panic.
For teachers: This lesson moves TF28 from concrete A1 future-plan language into evidence-based A2 listening before learners explain trends at B1.
คำอธิบายภาษาไทย
บทนี้ฝึกฟังประกาศหรือข้อความที่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลง โดยแยกแผนเดิม สิ่งที่เปลี่ยน เหตุผล และสิ่งที่ผู้พูดจะทำต่อ จากนั้นใช้หลักฐานที่ได้ยินเพื่อคาดการณ์อย่างระมัดระวัง
Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้
For learners: Listen for the old plan, the change, the reason and the next action, then make one evidence-based prediction.
For teachers: The listening route separates prediction, gist, details, evidence and transfer before an unseen final recording so the learner cannot pass by reading a transcript.
Your Goal
By the end of this lesson, you can understand the main change, record at least three accurate details, choose a sensible next action and make one prediction supported by what you heard.

Listening Practice rule: preserve the order Predict → gist → details → evidence → transfer → final. Play each complete recording no more than twice before using short replays. Ask for evidence before revealing an answer.
Teacher: Uses the cover and key nouns only.
Learner: Predicts one possible change.
Evidence: A reasonable listening purpose.
Teacher: Plays Amy once without transcript.
Learner: Chooses the main change for Mia and Ben.
Evidence: Two gist decisions.
Teacher: Plays Amy a second time.
Learner: Records time, place, reason and action.
Evidence: At least four accurate cells.
Teacher: Replays only the phrase needed.
Learner: Explains what words prove each answer.
Evidence: Two quoted or paraphrased clues.
Teacher: Removes the complete answers.
Learner: Builds one change, reason and prediction sentence.
Evidence: Accurate use of but, because and might/will probably.
Teacher: Plays unseen Kajal audio, scores and gives one correction.
Learner: Reports gist, details, next action and prediction, then retries.
Evidence: GIST/DET/ACT 0–2 after retry.
Feedback rule: Do not interrupt the first listen. After the full response, confirm one successful detail, correct one high-value misunderstanding, then replay only the relevant phrase and retry the weakest criterion.
Predict the kind of change
Your task: Look at the cover and the six clues. Choose two changes you might hear and say what you will listen for.
Listening purpose: “I will listen for what changed and what the person will do next.”
Teacher Help · Stage 1
Do not confirm the story. Accept different predictions, then ask the learner to name the evidence category they need: time, place, reason or action.
First listen: choose the main change
Your task: Listen once without reading. Choose the best gist for each update.
Two everyday plan changes
A. Her bus will leave earlier.
B. Her workplace will close.
C. She will take a taxi.
A. His class is cancelled.
B. His class has a new time and room.
C. His teacher will be late.
Check after both choices
1 A. The bus changes from 7:30 to 7:15. 2 B. The class changes to 6:30 and Room 8.
Teacher Help · Stage 2
Play the complete audio once at 1× with no pausing. Ask for both gist answers and one remembered clue before opening the answer. Do not show or read a transcript.
Second listen: collect the details
Your task: Listen to the same audio again. Complete the missing facts with short notes.
| Person | Usual plan | New information | Reason | Next action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mia | 7:30 bus | ________ | ________ | ________ |
| Ben | 6:00 · Room 12 | ________ | ________ | ________ |
Check only after the second full listen
Mia: 7:15 from next Monday · road repairs · leave home earlier. Ben: 6:30 in Room 8 this Thursday · another group needs Room 12 · message his teacher because he might be late.
Teacher Help · Stage 3
Play the complete audio a second time. Pause only after each update if the learner needs writing time. Require at least four accurate cells before opening the answer.
Prove each answer with evidence
Your task: Explain which words show the change, reason and likely result. Use the frames, then replay only a short section if needed.
Mia
“The change is ______ because I heard ______.”
“She thinks ______ will probably ______.”
Ben
“The reason is ______ because I heard ______.”
“He might ______, so he is going to ______.”
Evidence check
Mia: “Starting next Monday” + “leave at seven-fifteen” proves the new time; “because of road repairs” proves the reason. Ben: “This Thursday” + “half past six in Room Eight” proves the change; “another group needs the usual room” proves the reason.
Teacher Help · Stage 4
Ask “What exact words helped you?” before replaying. Use a short replay for only the disputed phrase. The learner may paraphrase evidence; exact quotation is not required.
Transfer the change-and-result language
Your task: Complete one sentence in each card about a real change you know. Keep your prediction cautious.
It usually ______, but this time ______.
your ideaBecause ______, I am going to ______.
your ideaIt might ______.
It will probably ______.
Teacher Help · Stage 5
Model one unrelated example, then remove it. Check that the prediction is connected to evidence rather than a random guess. Keep the focus on listening transfer, not a grammar lecture.
Listen to a new update and respond
Your task: Listen to the unseen market update. On the first play, say the main change. On the second play, record the old plan, new information, reason, Nora’s next action and one evidence-based prediction.
Community market update
- What is the main change?
- When and where will the market open?
- Why is it changing?
- What is Nora going to do?
- What might happen later, and what evidence supports your idea?
Success target: 5/6 with no zero and ACT = 2 after the focused retry.
GIST · Main change
0 · Not yet Cannot identify the event or important change.
1 · With support Identifies either the new place or later opening after a prompt.
2 · Independent Clearly reports that the market moves indoors and opens later.
DET · Details
0 · Not yet Gives fewer than two accurate details.
1 · With support Gives two or three accurate details after replay or a prompt.
2 · Independent Gives at least four accurate details: Saturday, sports hall, 10:00, heavy rain, later departure or extra bags.
ACT · Action
0 · Not yet Gives no sensible action or unsupported prediction.
1 · With support Reports Nora’s action or gives a supported prediction after one prompt.
2 · Independent Reports the next action and gives a cautious prediction supported by evidence from the audio.
Open after scoring the first attempt
Main change: The outdoor market moves to the sports hall and opens at 10:00, one hour later. Reason: Heavy rain is expected. Nora: She will leave later and bring extra bags. Prediction: More people might come in the afternoon when the rain becomes lighter.
Teacher Help · Final Practice
First play: gist only. Second play: details and action. Score before opening the answer. Give one correction, replay only the relevant phrase and ask the learner to retry the weakest GIST, DET or ACT part.
