Catch the gist
Who is speaking and what is the introduction mainly about?
Listening Practice · A1
Listen to two short introductions, identify useful personal details, and use one detail to continue the conversation.
For learners: Listen for essential personal details, then use one detail to continue a real first conversation.
For teachers: The sequence moves from prediction to gist, details, evidence, conversation transfer, and an independent listening task.
สำหรับผู้เรียน: ฝึกจับข้อมูลสำคัญจากการแนะนำตัว แล้วนำหนึ่งข้อมูลไปถามต่อเพื่อให้บทสนทนาแรกดำเนินต่อได้จริง
สำหรับครู: ลำดับจากการคาดเดา ไปสู่ใจความ รายละเอียด หลักฐาน การนำไปถามต่อ และภารกิจฟังอิสระ เพื่อให้ครูเห็นพัฒนาการชัดเจน
By the end of this lesson, you can identify at least three key personal details—such as name, location, work or study, and one interest—then ask a relevant follow-up question.
เมื่อจบบทเรียน นักเรียนจะฟังและจับข้อมูลสำคัญอย่างน้อย 3 จาก 4 ด้าน ได้แก่ ชื่อ สถานที่ งานหรือการเรียน และความสนใจ แล้วเลือกหนึ่งข้อมูลมาใช้ถามต่อเพื่อให้บทสนทนาดำเนินต่อไป
Who is speaking and what is the introduction mainly about?
Listen for name, location, work or study, and one interest.
Choose a conversation hook and ask one connected question.
Listening Practice standard: Keep the audio sequence intact: predict → first listen for gist → second listen for details → use one detail in conversation. Do not show the transcript before the first attempt.
Teacher: Ask what information the student expects to hear.
Student: Predicts the type of details, not the answers.
Required result: A listening purpose.
Teacher: Play once without pausing.
Student: Listens for speaker and main idea.
Required result: Gist before detail.
Teacher: Play again and allow short notes.
Student: Records the four target details.
Required result: Accurate key information.
Teacher: Replay only the part needed to verify evidence.
Student: Checks and corrects one uncertain detail.
Required result: Evidence-based correction.
Teacher: Ask the student to choose one conversation hook.
Student: Uses a heard detail to ask and respond.
Required result: Listening becomes interaction.
Teacher: Run one fresh listen-and-respond attempt.
Student: Identifies a detail and asks a connected question.
Required result: Independent listening evidence.
Feedback rule: Let the learner complete the attempt first. Give one communication or task-success point and one language improvement, then run a short retry.
Preview the four categories before listening. Predict the type of information you need—not the answers.
What is the speaker called?
Where does the speaker live now?
What does the speaker do?
What does the speaker enjoy?
Keep this stage to two minutes. Check that the learner understands the information categories, but do not reveal any name, place, work, study, or interest from the audio.
Listen once at normal speed. Focus on who each person is and what the introduction is mainly about.
Maya: her life and interests now. Daniel: his study and free time.
Play both introductions once at normal speed without pausing. Require one main-idea choice for each speaker before opening the answer. Replay only after the learner commits to an answer.
Listen again and write keywords. Do not try to copy every sentence.
Location: ________
Work or study: ________
Interest: ________
Exact clue: ________
Location: ________
Work or study: ________
Interest: ________
Exact clue: ________
Maya: Bangkok · works in a hotel · cooking, travel videos, or cycling. Daniel: Bangkok · studies design · drawing or badminton.
Allow one second listening at normal speed, then one targeted replay if needed. Accept keywords. Ask the learner to point to an exact heard phrase before opening the answer.
Connect each answer to the phrase that proves it. A correct guess without evidence is not enough.
“I work in a hotel.” → work
“I go cycling with my sister.” → interest
“I’m studying design.” → study
“I like playing badminton.” → interest
Ask “What exactly did you hear?” Require two short evidence phrases. If the learner cannot locate the clue, replay only the relevant speaker once.
Use one detail as a conversation hook: respond naturally, then ask a connected question.
“I work in a hotel.”
What do you do there?
“I’m studying design.”
What kind of design do you like?
“I go cycling.”
Where do you usually go?
“I like badminton.”
How often do you play?
Model only one conversation hook. The learner creates the second independently. Give feedback on relevance and clarity, then run a short no-model retry.
Choose one introduction. Listen without opening any answer. Report the useful details and use one detail to continue the conversation.
Teacher: switch the source to Daniel when needed, or use Maya for the first attempt and Daniel for the retry.
The evidence is missing, mostly incorrect, or completed only after the teacher supplies it.
The learner completes the evidence with replay, visible choices, prompts, or a stronger retry.
The learner completes the evidence accurately and clearly with minimal support.
Score GIST, DETAILS, and ACTION separately. Target: 5/6 or higher. If lower, replay one speaker, give one precise feedback point, and repeat only the missed evidence.
Keep answers closed. Allow one normal-speed listen and one replay. Score only the independent attempt or the clearly identified retry. Give one listening point and one conversation point, then record the next step.
รอบแรก: ฟังว่าใครกำลังพูดและพูดเรื่องอะไร ไม่ต้องแปลทุกคำ รอบที่สอง: จับข้อมูล 4 ช่อง ได้แก่ ชื่อ สถานที่ งานหรือการเรียน และความสนใจ จากนั้นเลือกหนึ่งข้อมูลไปใช้ถามต่อ หากฟังไม่ทัน ให้เปิดซ้ำก่อนเปิดดูคำตอบ
