1. Predict the story

Look at the situation. Do not read the story yet. Choose the most likely answer to each question and explain one choice.

What was dropped?
A folder, a phone, or a ticket?
What did the person do?
Ignore it, keep it, or return it?
Why did it matter?
What could be inside?
How to run Stage 1
Show only the cover and prompts. Accept different predictions, but ask the learner to give one reason. Do not confirm the story yet.

2. Read for the main idea

Read once without stopping. Then choose the best one-sentence summary.

One rainy morning, Nok was walking to work when she saw a man running towards a bus. A blue folder slipped out of his bag, but he did not notice. Nok picked it up and called after him. The bus doors closed before he reached them, so he turned around and heard her voice.

The man looked disappointed about missing the bus, but he was relieved when Nok returned the folder. It contained an application and several documents for an important job interview that afternoon. Without them, he would have had to cancel it.

Nok could not fix his journey, but her quick decision saved him from a much bigger problem. He thanked her, checked the next bus time and left with a smile.

How to run Stage 2
Give quiet reading time first. Ask for the best summary and one reason. Keep vocabulary questions until after the learner has identified the main idea.

3. Read again and find evidence

Find the exact part of the story that proves each answer. Say or highlight the evidence.

How to run Stage 3
Ask the learner to point to words in the text before explaining. For Question 3, accept “missing the bus”; for Question 4, require the job-interview documents or cancellation idea.

4. Build the cause-and-result path

Use the connectors to turn the key events into a clear retell.

First, a folder slipped out of the man’s bag.

Because he did not notice, Nok picked it up and called to him.

Although he missed the bus, he got his important documents back.

As a result, he could still attend his interview.

Close the model. Rebuild the four ideas in your own words.

How to run Stage 4
Read the four-link model once, then hide it. Prompt only with First, Because, Although and As a result. The learner does not need to repeat the exact wording.

5. Retell and respond

Retell the story in 45–60 seconds. Then answer: Was Nok’s action small or important? Why?

Listen after your first retell. Add one useful detail you missed, but keep your own wording.

How to run Stage 5
Let the learner complete the first retell without interruption. Play both short audios, ask what useful detail each adds, then invite one improved retell.

6. Final practice: Read, retell and explain

Without looking at the model, give a clear retell with the main event, two accurate details, the result and your opinion.

READ · Reading Comprehension

2: Gives the correct main idea and at least two accurate supporting details independently.

1: Gives the main idea but needs one prompt for accurate evidence.

0: The main event or result is not yet clear.

VR · Vocabulary & Retelling

2: Retells the sequence clearly in personal wording with useful connectors.

1: Retells the core sequence after one connector or vocabulary prompt.

0: The sequence cannot yet be followed.

How to run Stage 6
Listen without correcting. Score READ and VR from 0–2, give one evidence cue and one retelling cue, then repeat a shorter 30-second version so the learner can show immediate improvement.
