Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Use contrasting school-life visuals to compare experiences, question assumptions and discuss one realistic improvement.

For teachers: The visual leads. Learners observe, select optional language, imagine beyond the frame, challenge assumptions and sustain an unscripted discussion. No listening audio or model answer.

Why this lesson matters · ทำไมบทนี้จึงสำคัญ

For learners: Free Talk turns visual evidence into your own ideas, useful language and a genuine exchange rather than a memorised answer.

For teachers: The final discussion shows interpretation, language choice, interaction and improvement after one focused feedback point.

Teacher Lesson Plan

The picture and learner ideas lead. Optional language supports meaning. Do not add listening audio, a model answer or a choice-card funnel.

Stage Teacher move Evidence
1 Elicit visible details before interpretation. Observation + inference
2 Let the learner select only useful language. Meaningful choices
3 Accept possibilities connected to evidence. Coherent possibility
4 Challenge one assumption or trade-off. Reasoned judgement
5 Follow the learner’s last idea. Learner-led exchange
6 Score IDEA/LANG/TALK and retry one part. Independent improvement
Topic picture
Students comparing two different school-life scenes
1 · Look closely

What can the picture tell us?

Use the picture above.Start with visible evidence, then separate observation from interpretation.
NoticeWhat differences in place, people or activity can you see?
InferWhat might each learner enjoy or find difficult?
QuestionWhich detail would you ask about first?

Choose your own direction: Follow another idea if it grows naturally from the picture.

Teacher Help · Stage 1

4 min. Ask for three visible details before interpretation. Require the learner to distinguish “I can see” from “I think”.

2 · Build optional language

Choose words that help your idea

You do not need every item. Select only the language that makes your own meaning clearer.

independentable to act without much help

Phrasal verbs for this discussion

Language note: Choose one or two phrases, or replace them with better language for your idea.

keep up withchoose this only if it fits your idea
fall behindchoose this only if it fits your idea
hand inchoose this only if it fits your idea
take part inchoose this only if it fits your idea
work outchoose this only if it fits your idea
Teacher Help · Stage 2

5 min. Ask the learner to choose useful language, explain why it fits and use it in an original sentence.

3 · Imagine beyond the frame

Create a possibility the picture does not show

BeforeWhat happened just before each scene?
Different viewHow might each learner describe the same day?
NextWhat could improve one learner’s experience?

Optional starters: One possibility is… · The picture suggests…, but does not prove… · If that changed…

Teacher Help · Stage 3

5 min. Accept more than one coherent story. Ask which visual detail or real-world condition supports each possibility.

4 · Think critically

Challenge the first easy answer

Trade-offDoes the same rule help every learner equally?
AssumptionAre we confusing strictness with good learning?
DecisionWhich change has the best benefit and lowest cost?

Useful thinking language: It depends on… · We may be assuming… · The benefit is…, whereas the risk is…

Teacher Help · Stage 4

5 min. Use one prompt that creates depth. Ask for a reason, a counterpoint and one consequence.

5 · Open the discussion

Let one idea lead to another

Choose one real difference between schools or learning experiences. Let your partner’s questions move from description to fairness, support and results.

ExploreWhat makes you think that?
ImagineWhat would change if…?
ChallengeCould another view also be reasonable?

Freedom rule: Leave the picture once the conversation has a clear real-life direction.

Teacher Help · Stage 5

5 min. Facilitate rather than lead. Build each follow-up from the learner’s last idea; do not force every visible prompt.

6 · Final Free Talk

Final Practice: Build an original 90-second discussion

Task: Compare two school-life experiences, explain one important difference and its cause, respond to two follow-up questions, then recommend one realistic improvement and acknowledge one limitation.

Success: The discussion sounds like the learner’s thinking—not a completed worksheet or memorised model.

IDEA · Interpretation and thinking · 0–2

0 The talk remains a list or copied prompts.

1 One idea develops with support.

2 Original ideas, reasons, alternatives and consequences develop clearly.

LANG · Useful language · 0–2

0 General language repeatedly blocks meaning.

1 Selected language helps after a prompt.

2 Language choices make the learner’s meaning precise.

TALK · Independent speaking · 0–2

0 The teacher manages most of the exchange.

1 The learner continues with one reminder.

2 The learner develops, responds, questions and extends independently.

Target: Aim for at least 5/6 with TALK = 2.

Feedback + improved retry: Keep the first score. Choose one target—deeper idea, more precise language or more independent interaction—and retry only the weakest part.

Teacher Help · Final assessment

6 min. Observe without interruption. Score IDEA/LANG/TALK 0–2, give one precise target and run a focused retry.
