Your goal

By the end of this lesson, you can combine familiar A1 patterns to introduce yourself, exchange useful information, and describe or respond to a real situation with limited support.

Review / Mastery standard: This lesson retrieves and combines previously learned language. Do not reteach every rule. Record the weak pattern and link the learner back to one focused lesson.

0–3

Teacher: Run the readiness scan without a rule list.

Student: Produces one example for each familiar pattern.

Required result: A quick mastery baseline.

3–8

Teacher: Choose the mission and identify needed meanings.

Student: Selects language for the three communication goals.

Required result: A performance plan.

8–13

Teacher: Play the model once and ask what forms work together.

Student: Notices useful combinations, not isolated rules.

Required result: Integrated language awareness.

13–20

Teacher: Run Missions 1 and 2 without supplying sentences.

Student: Introduces, asks and responds independently.

Required result: Combined A1 performance.

20–26

Teacher: Add Mission 3 and one unexpected follow-up.

Student: Describes and adapts to new information.

Required result: Flexible retrieval.

26–30

Teacher: Score LC and FP; choose one focused next lesson.

Student: Retries one weak move and records the target.

Required result: Evidence plus next step.

Feedback rule: Let the learner complete the attempt first. Give one communication or task-success point and one language improvement, then run a short retry.

1 · Prepare to perform

Complete a readiness scan

Three-mission A1 mastery route for meeting, finding information, and describing a situation
Use the visual to notice, practise, and communicate.

Without opening a rule list, make one introduction, one present-simple question, one sentence about ability or permission, and one present-continuous description. Mark only the patterns that need a quick reminder.

How to run Stage 1

Ask for four short examples without showing rules. Mark only the earliest pattern that blocks meaning; do not turn the scan into a full grammar review.

2 · Plan from meaning

Choose language for three missions

Mission 1 needs personal facts and one correction. Mission 2 needs questions about routines, possessions, or abilities. Mission 3 needs objects, place or time, a current action, and one response to a rule or instruction.

How to run Stage 2

Explain each mission as a communication purpose. The learner selects useful meanings and key words, not complete teacher-written sentences.

3 · Listen for integration

Notice how familiar forms work together

Engduo Audio: Listen for meaning first. Audio never starts automatically.

Engduo Audio • American English

Notice how the speaker introduces herself, describes a routine, contrasts now, and asks a question.

Engduo Audio • British English

Track the person, routine, current action, place, and rule.

Listen to both models. Identify every change in purpose: introducing, describing a routine, describing now, asking, locating, and explaining a rule. Do not copy the speaker’s personal information.

How to run Stage 3

Play both models once. Ask where the purpose changes—introducing, describing, asking, locating, or explaining a rule—then hide the model.

4 · Communicate

Complete Missions 1 and 2

Mission 1 — Meet and correct: exchange four personal details and correct one deliberately incorrect detail. Mission 2 — Find out: ask four connected questions about routines, possessions, or abilities and respond to one answer.

How to run Stage 4

Run the first two missions as exchanges. Do not interrupt for every error; note one form that weakens meaning and use it in the retry.

5 · Respond and adapt

Complete Mission 3

Use a new picture or real setting. Identify two objects, describe two current actions, give one place or time detail, and respond to one simple rule or instruction. Answer one unprepared follow-up question.

How to run Stage 5

Use a new picture or real setting and add one unprepared follow-up. Prompt with the communication purpose only, not a complete answer.

Final practice: Complete three connected A1 missions

Task: Complete the meet-and-correct, find-out, and describe-and-respond missions. Use at least six different A1 grammar patterns and answer one unprepared follow-up.

Success: The learner completes all three purposes, combines familiar patterns without reading full sentences, and keeps meaning clear despite occasional self-correction.

LC · Language Control

2 Controls the selected A1 patterns well enough across questions, answers, descriptions, and corrections.

1 Meaning remains clear after one form cue or self-correction.

0 Frequent form problems obscure the intended meaning.

FP · Functional Performance

2 Completes all three missions and the unprepared follow-up independently.

1 Completes the core missions with visible key-word or purpose prompts.

0 The communication outcomes are not yet completed.

How to run Stage 6

Run the three missions without full-sentence support. Score LC and FP from 0–2, name the earliest weak focused lesson, give one cue, and repeat the shortest affected move.

Teacher guide · 30-minute delivery
  1. 3 min: Run four one-sentence readiness checks without reteaching.
  2. 5 min: Let the learner select language for the three missions from key words.
  3. 5 min: Play both models and identify each change in communication purpose.
  4. 6 min: Run Mission 1 and Mission 2 with only mission cards visible.
  5. 7 min: Run Mission 3 and one unprepared follow-up question.
  6. 4 min: Score LC and FP, identify the earliest weak focused lesson, and record the next step.
