Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: The present continuous helps a listener picture what is happening now and follow a scene when actions change.

For teachers: Learners move from present-time meaning to subject–be control, connected scene building, dual-accent change listening, note planning and one independent report with a focused retry.

Your Goal

By the end of this lesson, you can use am/is/are + verb-ing to describe actions happening now, connect details, and correct a changed description.

คำอธิบายภาษาไทย

ใช้ am/is/are + กริยา-ing เพื่อบอกว่าใครกำลังทำอะไรอยู่ตอนนี้ เชื่อมรายละเอียดของฉาก และแก้คำบรรยายเมื่อเหตุการณ์เปลี่ยน

Why this lesson matters

The present continuous lets you report what you can see now, help a listener follow several actions and update the message when the scene changes.

ภาษาไทย: โครงสร้างนี้ช่วยบอกสิ่งที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นจริง เชื่อมหลายเหตุการณ์ให้ผู้ฟังเห็นภาพ และปรับคำอธิบายเมื่อสถานการณ์เปลี่ยน

MEAN · MeaningChoose actions happening now or around now rather than a usual routine.
FORM · FormMatch the subject with am/is/are and form common verb-ing actions accurately.
USE · Real useConnect a six-action scene, respond to one change and answer a listener check.

Teacher Lesson Plan

Keep every form attached to an observable present-time meaning. Build from one action to a connected scene, then introduce a change that forces genuine updating.

Stage 1 · Separate a usual routine from what is happening now

Choose a real present-time scene before choosing the tense.

  1. Read eight short situations.
  2. Mark each one usual, now or temporary.
  3. Underline the time clue.
  4. Say why two situations need am/is/are + verb-ing.
Finish evidenceEight meaning decisions and two explained choices.
Teacher Help · Stage 1

Ask “Can I see the action now?” before discussing form. A time clue supports the decision but does not replace the intended meaning.

Stage 2 · Build am/is/are + verb-ing accurately

Match the subject to be, then form the action word.

  1. Complete twelve subject–be matches.
  2. Change eight base verbs to -ing forms.
  3. Build six full scene sentences.
  4. Repair: “They is write” and “She talking now.”
Check the form

Use subject + am/is/are + verb-ing. Keep be in the sentence; do not use the base verb after it.

Finish evidenceTwelve subject–be decisions, eight -ing forms and two repairs.
Teacher Help · Stage 2

Keep be and verb-ing as one chunk. If a learner omits be, point to the subject first and ask which form of be it needs.

Stage 3 · Connect actions into one clear scene

Add location and use and, while or but to guide the listener.

Teacher Help · Stage 3

Do not reward a disconnected list. Require the listener to know who is doing each action and where it is happening.

Stage 4 · Listen for a scene that changes

Map the first scene, then notice what changes in the second.

STUDENT TASK

Finish evidenceTwo listening maps, ten recovered actions and one full answer.
Teacher Help · Stage 4

Use accent variety for transfer, not imitation. Check meaning and actor before replaying a form.

Stage 5 · Plan a live present-time report

Use notes only so the report remains genuinely communicative.

FINAL PRACTICE

Set the scene → describe six actions → connect details → update one change → answer → retry

  1. Give a 60–75 second live or picture-based scene report.
  2. Use at least six accurate am/is/are + verb-ing actions.
  3. Add four location details, two connectors and one useful negative.
  4. Respond when the teacher or partner changes one action.
  5. Answer one What is/are … doing? question.
  6. Receive one target—meaning, form or real use—and retry only the weakest part.
Change cue: “Now the man is putting the books down.”—update the action instead of repeating the whole report.

Score the first independent performance

MEAN · MeaningThe listener can identify who is doing what now, where it is happening and what changes.
FORM · FormSubjects match am/is/are and common verb-ing forms remain accurate enough across the report.
USE · Real useThe learner connects six details, responds to a change and answers a follow-up without teacher-supplied sentences.
0 · Not yetThe listener cannot build a reliable picture of the current scene.
1 · With supportThe report works after one meaning, be-form or connection prompt.
2 · IndependentThe report, update and answer remain clear without a model.

Result: 0–2 Rebuild · 3–4 Developing · 5–6 A1 performance evidence.

Finish evidenceEight meaning decisions + twelve subject–be decisions + two listening maps + one six-action report + one focused retry.
Teacher Help · Stage 6

Score the first independent report. Give one target only, then record whether the retry improves current meaning, form or connected real use.
