Money, Spending, and Value
Prepare value, affordability, saving and trade-off vocabulary.
เตรียมคำศัพท์ความคุ้มค่า ความสามารถจ่าย การออม และข้อแลกเปลี่ยน

Explain a fictional monthly plan, identify a problem and agree on one realistic adjustment.
For learners: Turn budget vocabulary and figures into an organised two-way explanation, proposal and agreement.
For teachers: The learner ranks priorities, builds functional language, exchanges options, adapts to a new bill and proves the outcome.
สำหรับผู้เรียน: เปลี่ยนคำศัพท์และตัวเลขงบเป็นการอธิบาย เสนอ และตกลงแบบสองทาง
สำหรับครู: ผู้เรียนจัดลำดับ สร้างภาษาหน้าที่ แลกเปลี่ยนทางเลือก ปรับเมื่อมีบิลใหม่ และพิสูจน์ผลลัพธ์
Explain a fictional monthly budget, compare essential and optional spending, identify why the plan does not work, propose two adjustments and agree on one revised plan.
อธิบายงบประมาณรายเดือนสมมติ เปรียบเทียบค่าใช้จ่ายจำเป็นกับค่าใช้จ่ายเลือกได้ ระบุสาเหตุที่แผนไม่ลงตัว เสนอการปรับสองทาง และตกลงแผนที่แก้ไขแล้วหนึ่งแผนได้
For the learner: A budget conversation needs more than numbers: you must explain priorities, show a trade-off and respond when a partner suggests a change.
For the teacher: The guided sequence builds from prioritising and useful expressions to a two-way exchange, changed constraint and unsupported final explanation.
เหตุผลภาษาไทย: ฝึกเรียบเรียงเหตุผลเรื่องงบประมาณเป็นบทสนทนาสองทาง แล้วปรับคำตอบเมื่อเงื่อนไขเปลี่ยน
Do not reward a list of expenses. Require a clear problem, stated priorities, at least two options, one trade-off and a final agreement.
| Time | Teacher does | Student does | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–3 | Reveals May’s fictional profile. | Ranks the priorities. | A priority order. |
| 3–8 | Elicits six useful functions. | Builds true budget expressions. | A functional phrase set. |
| 8–12 | Shows the figures. | Compares income and expenses. | An identified problem. |
| 12–17 | Models the explanation route. | Builds two adjustment options. | Evidence + trade-off. |
| 17–21 | Runs a partner exchange. | Questions and responds. | Two-way speaking. |
| 21–27 | Adds an unexpected bill. | Revises and defends the plan. | An adapted agreement. |
| 27–30 | Runs a fresh case and scores. | Explains independently and retries. | COM/VR/FP. |
May has 14,000 baht for one month. She needs housing, transport and food, wants to continue a short course and hopes to protect an emergency saving.
Keep the task fictional. Ask which cost would cause the biggest problem if removed, then accept a defensible order.
The budget includes…
She sets aside…
The total comes to…
She is over budget by…
The main pressure is…
She spends too much on…
She could cut back on…
I would protect…
That works, provided that…
Over budget: The plan is 500 baht over budget.
Exactly on budget: The total comes to exactly 14,000 baht.
Under budget: The plan is 500 baht under budget. There is 500 baht left. / We have 500 baht to spare.
Use the remainder: We can put the remaining 500 baht into savings, carry it over to next month or keep it as a buffer.
Elicit the function before the phrase. When language sits on a scale, teach both ends and the neutral point before testing them. Require one original sentence for over, exactly on and under budget, then remove the full sentence frame.
| Category | Amount | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Housing | 6,000 baht | essential |
| Transport | 1,200 baht | essential |
| Food | 3,500 baht | mixed |
| Phone | 500 baht | essential |
| Course | 1,000 baht | priority |
| Emergency saving | 1,500 baht | priority |
| Leisure | 800 baht | optional |
The total is 14,500 baht. Let the learner calculate before confirming. Do not impose one correct priority order.
My monthly personal budget is twelve thousand baht. Rent and travel are essential. I set aside one thousand five hundred baht for emergencies and one thousand baht for a course. I usually spend too much on food delivery, so I plan to cut that category by eight hundred baht.
Keep model audio closed until the learner has produced two options. Use it only to notice organisation and target vocabulary.
Listen for response rather than monologue. If the learner repeats the first plan, ask them to address the partner’s suggestion directly.
The electricity bill is nine hundred baht higher this month. Keep the emergency saving, but pause the course payment for two weeks and reduce eating out. This protects the main priorities without borrowing money.
Play twice. Accept a different solution if it is supported by the figures and includes a clear trade-off.
Arun has 18,000 baht. His planned spending totals 18,700. He wants to protect 2,000 baht of saving and a 1,200-baht language course. Food delivery is 2,400 and leisure is 1,500. A transport repair then adds 600 baht.
Score the first unsupported performance, then score the focused retry separately.
Target: 5/6 overall with FP = 2 and no zero.
Score the first unsupported solution and agreement. Give one organisation or language correction, then rerun only the weakest section.
