- Collect location, order and timing details during a second listen.
- Use what you heard to confirm a useful next action.
Progress Focus · Lesson structure
Listening path: prepare → gist → details → evidence and clarification → unseen final listening.
Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class
| Time | Teacher does | Student does | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | Use the cover and six clue words; do not confirm the story. | Predict categories and set a listening purpose. | Prepared focus |
| 4–10 | Play Matthew once without pauses. | Choose the main purpose and one clue. | Gist |
| 10–17 | Play a second time; pause only once if needed. | Record at least five details. | Detail accuracy |
| 17–22 | Replay only one missing phrase. | Prove two answers and ask for one clarification. | Evidence / CM |
| 22–30 | Play unseen Kajal update, score, correct one item and retry. | Report the change, details and next actions. | GIST/DET/ACT 0–2 |
Feedback rule: Never interrupt the first listen. Confirm one successful clue, correct one misunderstanding and replay only the relevant phrase.
Audio rule: First play = natural speed and gist only. Second play = details. Open transcripts only after the learner has made a decision.
Prepare the household listening plan
- Look at the cover and name two possible locations.
- Choose three clues you expect to hear.
- Say: “I will listen for where things are and which job happens next.”
How to run Stage 1
Keep this as prediction. Do not confirm which room, object or chore is actually in the recording.
Listen once for the main plan
Before the visitor arrives
Engduo Audio · Matthew · American EnglishA. Find lost money.
B. Prepare the flat before a visitor arrives.
C. Move to a new home.
A. Object locations and chore order.
B. Furniture prices.
C. A travel route.
Check the gist — open after both choices
1 B. They are preparing the flat before a visitor arrives. 2 A. The message gives object locations and chore order.
How to run Stage 2
Play once at 1× with no pause. Ask for both choices and one remembered clue before opening the answer.
Listen again and collect exact details
Your task: Listen a second time. Record keywords, not full sentences.
| Item / action | Location or order | Words you heard |
|---|---|---|
| spare keys | ||
| clean towels | ||
| laundry basket | ||
| first chore | ||
| next chores | ||
| final check / time |
Transcript — open after the second listen
The spare keys are on the shelf beside the front door. Clean towels are inside the bathroom cupboard, and the laundry basket is next to the washing machine. First, put the wet clothes in the machine. Then wipe the kitchen table and take out the rubbish. Finally, check the bathroom before Mia arrives at seven.
How to run Stage 3
Require five accurate details before opening the transcript. If one detail is missing, replay only its phrase.
Prove the answer and ask for the part you missed
- Choose two answers and quote or paraphrase the words that prove them.
- Explain the chore order with first, then, after that, finally.
- Ask one clarification question about a missed detail.
Evidence: “I heard ______, so the ______ is ______.”
Clarification: “Did you say ______ or ______?” / “Which job comes after ______?”
How to run Stage 4
Do not supply the clarification question. Accept a natural variation if it targets a genuinely missing detail.
Final listening challenge: the plan changes
Your task: First play: identify the main change. Second play: record the new place for the keys, the delayed chore, what must happen now, the new arrival time and the follow-up action.
The changed household plan
Engduo Audio · Kajal · Indian English- What changed?
- Where are the keys now?
- Which chore can wait?
- What two jobs must happen now?
- What will the speaker do next?
Success target: main change + four accurate details + two correct actions, with no zero after one focused retry.
Transcript — open after scoring the first attempt
Small change: Mia will arrive at half past six, not seven. I moved the spare keys from the shelf to the blue bowl on the kitchen counter. Leave the laundry for tomorrow. Please wipe the table now, put fresh towels in the bathroom, and message me when those two jobs are finished.
How to run Stage 5
Score before opening the transcript. Give one correction, replay only the relevant phrase and retry the weakest GIST, DET or ACT response.
