Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Build a small, practical word bank so you can ask for help and understand the most common service responses.

For teachers: This A1 foundation moves from noticing service purpose to organising words, listening, retrieval, guided requests, and one independent service exchange.

สำหรับผู้เรียน: สร้างคลังคำและวลีสั้น ๆ ที่ใช้ขอความช่วยเหลือ อธิบายปัญหาง่าย ๆ และเข้าใจคำตอบที่พบบ่อยในงานบริการ
สำหรับครู: บทเรียนเริ่มจากเข้าใจจุดประสงค์ จัดกลุ่มคำ ฟัง เรียกคืนคำ ฝึกคำขอ และจบด้วยสถานการณ์บริการแบบอิสระ

Your goal

By the end of this lesson, you can make one simple service request, state one basic problem, and choose a clear next step.

เป้าหมายภาษาไทย

เมื่อจบบทเรียน คุณจะสามารถขอความช่วยเหลือเรื่องบริการหนึ่งอย่าง บอกปัญหาพื้นฐานหนึ่งข้อ และเลือกขั้นตอนถัดไปที่ชัดเจนได้

Progress Focus · VR · FP
VR · Vocabulary RangeChoose service words and request phrases that match the situation.
FP · Functional PerformanceComplete one short request–response exchange without reading a full script.

Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class

Outcome: The learner makes one simple request, states the problem, and agrees on a solution or next step.

Prepare: Choose one familiar service setting: a shop, delivery desk, café, hotel, or school office. Use only the words needed for that setting.

Teaching move: Establish meaning first, practise short chunks, reduce the phrase support, and delay correction until each message is complete.

Evidence: VR = selects at least three suitable target items; FP = completes a four-turn exchange and makes the agreed outcome clear.

Stage 1 · Notice

What job does each phrase do?

3 min

Read the four service moments. Decide which phrase starts the request, explains the problem, asks for a solution, and closes politely.

1 · Start
Excuse me. Can you help me?
2 · Problem
One item is missing.
3 · Solution
Could I have a replacement, please?
4 · Close
Thank you. That is fine.

Teacher Help · Stage 1

Ask the learner to point to the job before reading the sentence. Accept “start,” “problem,” “solution,” and “finish” as enough at A1.

Stage 2 · Organise

Build three useful word groups

5 min

↔ Swipe left or right to see the full table · เลื่อนตารางซ้าย–ขวาเพื่อดูทั้งหมด

Ask for help · ขอความช่วยเหลือ

English Use
Can you help me? start the request
I need … state what you need
Can I have …? ask for an item or service
please make the request polite

Simple problems · ปัญหาง่าย ๆ

Word Useful chunk
missing one item is missing
wrong the wrong item
broken the item is broken
late the order is late

Next steps · ขั้นตอนถัดไป

Word Useful chunk
replacement have a replacement
exchange exchange the item
refund ask for a refund
tomorrow ready tomorrow
Teacher Help · Stage 2

Teach the words as short chunks: “item is missing,” “wrong size,” “have a replacement,” and “refund, please.” Do not ask the learner to memorise isolated definitions.

Stage 3 · Listen

Hear the key words in a real service problem

4 min

Audio A01 · Mixed American and British English

Listen once for the situation. Listen again and tick the words you hear: order, missing, replacement, refund, tomorrow.

Open the listening map after the second listen

Order 4821 · one item is missing · the missing item is a blue water bottle · replacement or refund · replacement tomorrow.

Teacher Help · Stage 3

Keep the first listen meaning-first. On the second listen, pause only after a complete speaker turn. The learner does not need every word to identify the problem and next step.

Stage 4 · Retrieve

Choose the useful word without looking back

5 min

1. One item is ___.
2. You want the same item again.
3. You want your money back.
4. Which word makes the request polite?

Teacher Help · Stage 4

After each answer, ask the learner to use the word in one short chunk. Give the first chunk word only if recall stops for more than five seconds.

Stage 5 · Build

Put the request in a clear order

5 min

Excuse me. I need help with + thing. The problem is + fact. Could I have + solution + please?
Excuse me. I need help with my order.
One item is missing.
Could I have a replacement, please?
Thank you. Tomorrow is fine.

Your turn: Choose one problem and one next step. Say the four parts in order, then repeat without reading the full model.

Teacher Help · Stage 5

Keep one frame visible for the first attempt. On the second attempt, cover the model and leave only four prompts: start → problem → solution → close.

Stage 6 · Guide

Find the facts and complete the exchange

4 min

Audio A02 · American English

Listen for the order number, arrival day, wrong item, and preferred result.

Order7350 · arrived Monday
Orderedmedium black shirt
Receivedlarge green shirt

Customer: Use the facts to ask for the correct item. Service worker: Say when the replacement can arrive. Both people close by repeating the agreed result.

Teacher Help · Stage 6

Let the learner choose the customer or service role. Supply facts, not a full script. Change one colour or size for the second attempt so the learner must listen and adapt.

Final Practice · Independent use · 4 min

Make one simple request and agree the result

Task: Complete a four-turn service exchange without the word tables or full model. Include:

  • a polite start and one clear service need,
  • one basic problem using a target word,
  • one suitable solution or next step,
  • a final confirmation that both people understand.

Success: The listener can state the problem and the agreed outcome after the exchange.

VR · Vocabulary Range

0 · Not yet: Cannot choose words that match the service situation.

1 · With support: Uses suitable words after one prompt.

2 · Independent: Selects and uses at least three target words or phrases accurately.

FP · Functional Performance

0 · Not yet: The request or agreed result is incomplete.

1 · With support: Completes the exchange after one prompt or clarification.

2 · Independent: Completes the request–response exchange and makes the agreed result clear.

Teaching reference: Designed for CEFR A1 interaction: making a simple request, understanding a basic response, and confirming a familiar service outcome. Audio is intentionally recycled from the approved TF20 A2 order-problem lesson to introduce real mixed-accent input after the vocabulary is established. © Engduo Learning Resources.
