For learners: Use this optional 12-minute focus only when an important or corrected detail is still difficult for a listener to catch in the parent lesson.

For teachers: A short hear–shape–listener-check sequence uses one consistent reference voice for imitation, then returns the learner to the parent roleplay. Accent diversity remains in listening and transfer activities.

Why this pronunciation focus matters

The listener catches an item, colour, number or time quickly.
You can correct one detail without repeating the entire conversation.
The skill immediately supports a real request or customer-service roleplay.

Stress is not shouting. Use a slightly longer word, a clear vowel and a small pitch movement. Keep the surrounding words lighter.

Recommended use: Complete this focus only when sentence stress is the learner’s current communication blocker. Otherwise continue directly to the parent lesson.

How to coach Step 1

Ask both “Which word?” and “What information does it correct?” Replay once only if needed. Do not ask the learner to copy both accents.

Hold the focus word slightly longer.

Pitch

Let the voice move on that word.

Vowel clarity

Keep the focus vowel full and clear.

No, the BLUE file.

No, at THREE.

Student task

Say each correction once at normal volume.
Keep “No, the…” or “No, at…” lighter.
Listener repeats the corrected word.
If it is wrong, adjust one feature and retry once.

How to coach Step 2

If the learner becomes louder, say “same volume, clearer shape.” Correct only one pronunciation control before the retry.

3Use it inside a real request

Listener check

Make one natural request with a colour, number or time.
The listener repeats the important detail.
The listener deliberately repeats one detail incorrectly.
Move the stress to correct it.
The listener repeats the corrected detail.

Quick success check

If one item is unclear: give one focused correction and retry that sentence once. Then return to the Roleplay or Guided Speaking task.

How to coach Step 3

Look away so facial cues do not reveal the answer. Use listener evidence instead of a numerical pronunciation score. The parent lesson keeps its own communication rubric.
