Solve a Problem with an Order
Report what went wrong, answer one clarification question, choose a practical solution and confirm the same outcome and timing.
This lesson keeps one five-turn problem-solving pattern while the order detail, problem and solution change. The learner practises both roles before completing one unrehearsed service interaction.
Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้
For learners: Use listening evidence and practical service language to solve an order problem and confirm the same action and timing.
For teachers: The six-stage roleplay moves from roles and usable lines to a model, supported round, role switch with an embedded pronunciation focus, and an unrehearsed final performance.
Your goal
By the end of this lesson, you can report an order problem, answer one clarification question, agree on a practical solution, and confirm the same outcome and timing with the service agent.

Why this roleplay matters
- Learner: solve a routine order problem without memorising a long script.
- Teacher: observe whether both roles reach the same practical agreement.
- Real use: report the facts calmly, ask before offering a solution, and confirm what happens next.
Progress Focus · Lesson structure
Functional Performance
Give accurate order details and agree the same solution and timing.
Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class
- Confirm that the Customer reports facts and the Service Agent asks before offering options.
- Keep the same five turns: identify → describe → clarify → choose → confirm.
- Use the model once for outcome and once for turn order; do not explain every line.
- Run one supported round, switch roles, then remove most prompts.
- Do not interrupt Final Practice. Record CM and FP evidence first.
- Give one focused correction and require an immediate shorter retry with one changed condition.
Know the two roles and the five turns
Customer
- Give the order number.
- State what arrived and what is wrong.
- Answer one detail question.
- Choose a suitable result.
Service Agent
- Acknowledge the problem.
- Ask one useful clarification question.
- Offer two realistic options.
- Confirm action and timing.
Say the five turns in your own words. Then choose which role you want to practise first.
How to run Stage 1
Use two fingers or two name cards to establish the roles. Ask the learner to explain each job; do not supply a script. Move on when the five-turn outcome is clear.
Notice usable lines for each turn
Customer lines
- I’m calling about order 4821.
- It arrived today, but one item is missing.
- The missing item is the blue water bottle.
- Could you send a replacement?
- So it will arrive tomorrow. Is that right?
Agent lines
- I’m sorry about that.
- Which item is missing?
- I can send a replacement or refund that item.
- We can send it tomorrow.
- Yes, that’s correct.
Keep the five jobs, then change the order number, item, problem, option and timing.
Sort ten lines into the five turns. Cover the examples and rebuild one Customer line and one Agent line.
How to run Stage 2
Elicit the function before correcting form. Model only one short line if the learner cannot begin. Correct the problem detail before minor grammar.
Hear one complete problem-solving model
First listen: What solution do they agree? Second listen: Where do the five turns happen?

Customer: Hi, I’m calling about order 4821. It arrived today, but one item is missing.
Agent: I’m sorry about that. Which item is missing?
Customer: The blue water bottle.
Agent: I can send a replacement tomorrow or refund that item.
Customer: Please send the replacement tomorrow.
Agent: Certainly. We’ll send the blue water bottle tomorrow. Is that correct?
Customer: Yes, that’s right. Thank you.
Write only the problem, agreed solution and timing. Then point to the five turns without replaying.
How to run Stage 3
Play once for the outcome and once for turn order. Do not open the transcript before the first listen. Accept the answer only when the learner names the same solution and timing as the model.
Round 1: Solve one missing-item case
Customer card: Order 7350 · arrived Monday · two notebooks ordered · one notebook arrived · replacement preferred.

- Customer identifies the order and problem.
- Agent acknowledges and asks one clarification question.
- Customer answers with the missing detail.
- Agent offers two options.
- Customer chooses; both confirm action and timing.
Complete the five turns with the visible role cards. Do not read a full model.
How to run Stage 4
Teacher begins as the Agent. Allow up to one prompt per role. Do not interrupt a complete turn. After the round, correct only one missing interaction move.
Round 2: Switch roles and change the problem
Wrong item
Ordered: medium black shirt
Received: large green shirt
Preferred result: correct item
Timing need: before Friday
Damaged item
Ordered: glass water bottle
Problem: arrived broken
Preferred result: refund
Extra condition: original card unavailable
Listen for: What was ordered, what arrived, and what result the customer wants.
Ready.

Order 7350 arrived on Monday. The customer ordered a medium black shirt but received a large green shirt. The customer would like the correct item.
Student is now the Service Agent. Choose one case, ask before offering options, and confirm the final action, owner and timing.
How to run Stage 5
Switch roles and hide most phrase support. Change one realistic condition after the learner begins. Delay feedback until both people have confirmed the same outcome.
Final roleplay: New order problem, less support
Task: Complete one unrehearsed customer-service interaction. Identify the order, explain the problem, answer one clarification question, choose between two realistic options, and confirm action and timing.
Customer receives
Order number, arrival day, ordered item, actual problem and one preferred result.
Agent receives
One clarification need, two available options, one timing limit and the person responsible.
- Both roles reach the same solution.
- The final action, owner and timing match.
- The listener does not need the teacher to manage the turns.
Perform once without a model. Hear one focused correction, then retry the weakest 20–30 seconds with one changed condition.
How to run Stage 6
Do not supply wording during the first performance. Score CM and FP, give one precise correction, change one condition and require an immediate shorter retry.
Teacher scoring guide · CM / FP
Target: 3/4 total with neither dimension at 0, followed by one improved retry.
CM · Conversation Management
