GIST · Main Meaning
2: Device and purpose are accurate after the first listen.
1: One is accurate or both need a prompt.
0: Device and purpose are not identified.
Listen for the device, its purpose, the order of the process and one useful next action.
For the learner: Short device explanations help you follow demonstrations, use unfamiliar equipment and ask for help.
For the teacher: The learner must separate the main meaning from ordered detail, then use the evidence to choose a practical action.
เหตุผลภาษาไทย: ผู้เรียนฝึกแยกใจความสำคัญ รายละเอียดตามลำดับ และนำข้อมูลที่ได้ยินไปเลือกการกระทำที่เหมาะสม
For learners: Understand short explanations of how useful devices work, then choose a practical next action from what you hear.
For teachers: The lesson moves from prediction to gist, ordered details, evidence and transfer before an independent new-device listening task.
Identify the device, purpose and ordered process from short spoken explanations, then state one useful action.
ฟังเพื่อระบุอุปกรณ์ จุดประสงค์ และขั้นตอนตามลำดับ แล้วบอกการกระทำที่เป็นประโยชน์ได้หนึ่งอย่าง
Keep the transcript closed. Play once for gist, once for details and only one focused replay when evidence is missing. Always finish with a short speaking move.
| Time | Audio order and teacher move | Expected learner evidence | Follow-up move |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | Show the four listening categories; do not teach the answers. | A prediction about device, purpose or action. | “What word do you expect?” |
| 4–9 | Play A01 once without pausing. | Automatic soap dispenser + no-touch hand cleaning. | One complete gist sentence. |
| 9–15 | Play A01 once more; allow one focused replay only. | Sensor → signal → motor → soap; check battery/refill. | Correct one detail with “I heard…” |
| 15–20 | Reveal transcript after evidence has been stated. | Four details matched to exact words. | Retell with first, next and finally. |
| 20–25 | Remove transcript and cue a 30-second retell. | Device, purpose, three steps and action. | Partner asks one how/what question. |
| 25–30 | Play A02 once for gist and once for details; score first unsupported response. | Bike light, purpose, ordered setup and recharge action. | Focused retry of the weakest criterion. |
Do not guess every word. Prepare four listening questions.
Accept reasonable predictions such as sensor, battery, press, first or next. Do not confirm the device before the first listen.
1. Which device is described?
2. What is its main purpose?
Play once at 1×. Require the gist sentence before any replay. Evidence expected: automatic soap dispenser; clean hands without touching a pump.
3. What happens first?
4. What does the motor do?
5. What happens finally?
6. What should the user do if no soap comes out?
Pause only after the second full listen. Ask “What exact words did you hear?” before the optional focused replay. Do not allow unlimited replay.
First: hand under sensor
Next: sensor detects and sends a signal
Then: motor pushes soap through the tube
Finally: soap drops onto the hand
Evidence: no soap comes out
Useful action: check the battery and refill the container
Sentence: “Because no soap comes out, check the battery first.”
You are looking at an automatic soap dispenser. It helps people clean their hands without touching a pump. First, place your hand under the small sensor. The sensor detects your hand and sends a signal. Next, a tiny motor pushes soap through the tube. Finally, the soap drops onto your hand. If no soap comes out, check the battery and refill the container.
Evidence must be tied to exact spoken language. Praise self-correction and ask the learner to repeat the corrected detail once.
It is a ___. It helps people ___.
First, ___. Next, ___. Finally, ___.
If ___, check / charge / refill ___.
Allow keywords but no full script. The follow-up speaking move checks whether listening evidence can support a clear explanation.
Gist: a rechargeable bicycle light; helps a cyclist see and be seen at night.
Details: connect cable → charge battery → green light appears → remove cable → attach to handlebar → press button → press again for brightness.
Action: if the light is weak, charge it before the next trip.
Transcript: This is a rechargeable bicycle light. It helps a cyclist see and be seen at night. First, connect the cable and charge the battery. When the green light appears, remove the cable. Next, attach the light to the handlebar and press the top button. Press it again to change the brightness. If the light is weak, charge it before the next trip.
2: Device and purpose are accurate after the first listen.
1: One is accurate or both need a prompt.
0: Device and purpose are not identified.
2: Four or more details are accurate and ordered.
1: Two or three details are accurate or partly ordered.
0: Fewer than two usable details.
2: Gives the correct action and links it to evidence independently.
1: Gives a partly suitable action with support.
0: No suitable evidence-based action.
Target: 5/6 overall, ACT = 2 and no zero.
Score the first unsupported performance and the focused retry separately.
Play once for gist and once for detail. Keep the transcript closed until scoring ends. Give one correction only, then rerun the weakest GIST, DET or ACT evidence.
