Use going to: the speaker has an intention or has made a decision before speaking.

Planning visual with personal intentions, a plan question, a negative plan, and sequence language
Use the visual to notice, practise, and communicate.
Decided intention
I’m going to visit my aunt on Saturday.
Not decided yet
Maybe I’ll stay home. I’m not sure.
How to run Stage 1

3 min: Give three examples and let the learner identify decided plans versus undecided possibilities.

2 · Notice the pattern

Build be going to + base verb

Listen for the form that changes with the subject.

Engduo Audio: Listen for meaning first. Audio never starts automatically.

Engduo Audio • American English

Engduo Audio • British English

4 · Practise with support

Prepare one real plan

  1. When: This ______, I’m going to ______.
  2. Detail: I’m going to ______ with ______.
  3. Reason: I’m going to do this because ______.
  4. Question: What are you going to do?

Prepare key words only, then speak without reading full sentences.

How to run Stage 4

6 min: Prepare one real plan with when, who, and a reason using key words only.

5 · Communicate

Build a three-step shared plan

Choose one free or low-cost day. Ask about ideas, explain one constraint, and agree on three actions.

Required: two going to statements, two plan questions, one negative plan with a replacement, and the sequence first → then → finally.

How to run Stage 5

7 min: Negotiate a shared three-step plan without interruption.

Final practice: Agree on a practical plan

Task: Explain one real intention, ask two questions about your partner’s plan, and agree on a shared plan with three actions in sequence.

Success: The learner uses the correct form of be, keeps the main verb in the base form, and reaches a shared plan without teacher-supplied sentences.

LC · Language Control

0 Frequent form problems obscure the intended time or meaning.

1 Meaning remains clear with some prompting or self-correction.

2 Controls be going to + base verb in statements, negatives, and questions.

FP · Functional Performance

0 Does not yet complete the communication outcome.

1 Completes most of the outcome with visible prompts.

2 Explains an intention and completes a three-step shared plan independently.

How to run Stage 6

4 min: Score LC and FP, correct one recurring form, and retry the weakest exchange.
