For maximum benefit, unfinished personal examples may be completed after class. The core lesson still ends with an independent performance.

TEACHER Teacher Lesson Plan · Read before class
  1. Set the listener, purpose and final outcome.
  2. Use the model for noticing, not line-by-line reading.
  3. Let the learner select and personalise useful language.
  4. Run supported practice, then remove the support.
  5. Delay feedback until the message is complete.
  6. Score the final task, give one improvement point and require a focused retry.
1

Predict the evidence you need

A colleague gives a concise status update. Listen for the owner, completed work, risk, deadline and next action—do not try to write every word.

Learner does: explain the listener, purpose and successful outcome in your own words.
Teacher Help · Stage 1
Ask the learner to state the listener, purpose and successful outcome in plain English. Move on only when the task is clear.
2

First listen · understand the message

Model update: Nara finished the client draft this morning. Legal still needs to approve two claims, so Thursday is at risk. Som will send the revised wording by 11 a.m., and Nara will confirm the review date after lunch.
Engduo Audio · Model 1
Engduo Audio · Model 2
Learner does: identify the job of each part of the model before borrowing any language.
Teacher Help · Stage 2
Play the first model without transcript or pausing. Ask for the overall message, not every word.
3

Second listen · capture evidence

Owner
  • Who owns the next action?
  • Who completed the work?
Status and risk
  • What is complete?
  • What may delay the deadline?
Action record
  • What happens next?
  • When will the next update arrive?
Learner does: explain the meaning of each group and create one true workplace example from every row.
Teacher Help · Stage 3
Play the second model or replay once. The learner records only the evidence named in the task; open the transcript afterwards.
4

Verify only after listening

Learner does: First listen: state the overall status only.

Use keywords only. Change names, figures, reasons and actions so the message is yours.

Teacher Help · Stage 4
Let the learner compare notes with the model and correct the action record using audible evidence, not guesses.
5

Use the evidence in a response

  1. Second listen: complete owner, risk, action and time.
  2. Give a 20-second verbal handover using only the verified details.

Retry rule: after feedback, repeat the weakest part with one changed condition.

Teacher Help · Stage 5
Take the other role or act as the reader. Change one realistic fact after the first attempt and delay correction until the message is complete.
6

Final listening task · act on what you hear

Listen to a new update once, record the four action details accurately and give a concise handover without reading a transcript.

Success: complete the task independently and make the listener’s next action or understanding clear.

Teacher Help · Final assessment
Do not supply wording during the final task. Score the three Progress Focus areas, give one precise improvement point and run a shorter retry.
