Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Arrange three services, choose an object-focused or person-focused causative, confirm responsibility, and report one completed result and one unresolved problem.

For teachers: This B2 step moves from precise lexical chunks to service coordination. Learners choose between have/get something done and have/get someone do/to do something, confirm responsibility, then report completed and unresolved outcomes.

สำหรับผู้เรียน: จัดบริการ 3 อย่าง เลือก causative ที่เน้นสิ่งของหรือผู้ดำเนินการ ยืนยันความรับผิดชอบ และรายงานผลที่เสร็จแล้วหนึ่งเรื่องกับปัญหาที่ยังไม่คลี่คลายหนึ่งเรื่อง
สำหรับครู: ขั้น B2 นี้ต่อยอดจากกลุ่มคำที่แม่นยำไปสู่การประสานบริการ ผู้เรียนเลือกระหว่าง have/get something done กับ have/get someone do/to do something ยืนยันความรับผิดชอบ แล้วรายงานผลที่เสร็จและปัญหาที่ยังไม่คลี่คลาย

Your Goal

By the end of this lesson, you can arrange three services, choose an object-focused or person-focused causative, confirm responsibility, and report one completed result and one unresolved problem.

คำอธิบายภาษาไทย

จัดบริการ 3 อย่าง เลือกโครงสร้างที่เน้นผลลัพธ์หรือผู้รับผิดชอบ ยืนยันว่าใครทำอะไร และรายงานทั้งงานที่เสร็จแล้วกับปัญหาที่ยังไม่จบ

Why this lesson matters

Causative have and get separate arranging a service from performing it yourself. Choosing an object-focused or person-focused frame helps listeners understand the intended result and who is responsible.

ภาษาไทย: โครงสร้าง causative แยกการจัดให้ผู้อื่นทำงานออกจากการลงมือทำเอง การเลือกว่าจะเน้นสิ่งที่ได้รับการจัดการหรือเน้นผู้รับผิดชอบช่วยให้สื่อสารผลลัพธ์และหน้าที่ได้ชัดเจน

Stage 1 · Separate the service from the result

Decide whether the subject performs an action or arranges for another person to do it.

STUDENT TASK
SituationMeaning focusBest starting frame
I repaired the screen.I did the work.ordinary active verb
I had the screen repaired.I arranged the service.have + object + past participle
I got the technician to repair it.I persuaded or arranged for a person to act.get + person + to-infinitive
I had the technician repair it.I instructed or arranged for a person to act.have + person + base verb
  1. Read eight service situations and identify who actually performs the work.
  2. Mark each as self-performed, object-focused arrangement or person-focused arrangement.
  3. Explain what changes when the worker is omitted.
  4. Create one example for a repair, an installation and a document service.
Finish evidenceEight meaning labels and three accurate service examples.
Teacher Help · Stage 1

Establish agency before form. The causative shows that the subject arranges or causes an action; it does not automatically mean the subject performs the work.

Stage 2 · Build object-focused causatives

Use have or get + object + past participle when the arranged result matters more than the worker.

STUDENT TASK
Time / stanceFrameService example
routine or neutralhave + object + past participleWe have the filters replaced every six months.
completed resulthad + object + past participleI had the invoice corrected yesterday.

future arrangementwill have/get + object + past participleWe will have the unit inspected on Friday.
  1. Transform six direct-action sentences into arranged-service results.
  2. Keep the service object before the past participle.
  3. Choose have or get to fit the register and context.
  4. Add time information that makes the status clear.
  5. Check that the past participle, not the past tense, describes the arranged action.
Finish evidenceSix object-focused causatives with clear result and time.
Teacher Help · Stage 2

Contrast meaning and register without claiming that have is always formal or get is always informal. Require object + past participle and confirm that the subject arranged the service.

Stage 3 · Name the responsible person accurately

Use have + person + base verb or get + person + to-infinitive when responsibility must be explicit.

STUDENT TASK
PatternTypical meaningExample
have + person + base verbassign or arrange a taskI had Mina check the booking.
get + person + to-infinitivepersuade or successfully arrangeI got the supplier to resend it.
have/get + object + past participlefocus on the affected object/resultWe got the booking corrected.
not a causativeperson performs own actionMina checked the booking.
  1. Underline the responsible person and circle the affected object in eight examples.
  2. Complete four sentences with a base verb after have.
  3. Complete four with to + infinitive after get.
  4. Repair two sentences that mix the person-focused frames.
  5. Reframe one person-focused sentence as an object-focused result.
Check the two person-focused frames

have someone do uses the base verb without to. get someone to do requires to before the infinitive.

Finish evidenceEight responsibility labels, eight completions and two repaired forms.
Teacher Help · Stage 3

Keep person and object roles visible. If the learner says “have someone to do” or “get someone do,” prompt only with “after have?” or “after get?” before providing the answer.

Stage 4 · Listen for responsibility, deadline and result

Recover both the arranged service and the person responsible for the next action.

5 minutes
STUDENT TASK
American English · Joanna

Office service call

Identify the arranged result, assigned people, deadline and follow-up action.

British English · Brian

Travel service update

Track what was arranged, what went wrong, who will act and the intended result.

3 · Statusdeadline, completed result or unresolved problemWhat is finished and what remains?
  1. Listen once and map service → responsible person → deadline → result.
  2. Listen again and recover four causative clauses from each update.
  3. Label each clause object-focused or person-focused.
  4. Retell one completed result and one unresolved problem in your own words.
Finish evidenceTwo responsibility maps, eight recovered clauses and two status reports.
Teacher Help · Stage 4

The two reviewed neural voices provide accent variety. Score causative meaning before exact wording, then check object/person position and the verb form.

Stage 5 · Plan three connected service arrangements

Choose the frame that makes result or responsibility clearest at each point.

  1. Choose three related services for work, travel, home or study.
  2. Plan one object-focused and two person-focused causatives.
  3. Add a responsible person, deadline and confirmation question.
  4. Mark one completed result and one unresolved problem.
  5. Prepare one repair if the listener misunderstands who performs the action.
Finish evidenceA three-service plan with responsibility, deadline, status and repair.
Teacher Help · Stage 5

The plan must contain a real communicative choice: result focus versus person focus. Do not reward extra causatives if they obscure who is responsible.

Stage 6 · Final Practice: arrange, confirm and report

Manage a short service sequence and update the listener when one result is still unresolved.

6 minutes
STUDENT TASK
FINAL PRACTICE

Arrange three services → confirm responsibility → report status → clarify → retry

  1. Deliver a 90-second service coordination update covering all three arrangements.
  2. Use at least one object-focused causative with have or get.
  3. Use have + person + base verb and get + person + to-infinitive accurately.
  4. Ask or answer one confirmation question about who will act and by when.
  5. Report one completed result and one unresolved problem.
  6. Receive one MEAN, FORM or USE target and retry only the highest-risk section.
Service update model: “We had the air conditioner inspected this morning. I had Niran check the wiring, and I got the supplier to send a replacement part. The inspection is complete, but we still haven’t had the damaged panel replaced. Could you confirm who will arrange that and by when?”

Score the first independent performance

MEAN · MeaningThe listener can identify each arranged service, the responsible person, the deadline and current status.
FORM · FormObject + past participle, have + person + base verb and get + person + to-infinitive remain accurate enough.
USE · Real useThe learner coordinates three services, confirms responsibility and reports a completed result plus an unresolved problem.
0 · Not yetAgency or status remains unclear and the service cannot be followed.
1 · With supportThe update works after one frame, responsibility or deadline prompt.
2 · IndependentAll three arrangements, the confirmation and both status reports remain clear without a model.

Result: 0–2 Rebuild · 3–4 Developing · 5–6 B2 performance evidence.

Finish evidenceThree arranged services + two person-focused frames + responsibility confirmation + completed result + unresolved problem + focused retry.
Teacher Help · Stage 6

Score the first independent update only. Give one high-value target, then record whether the retry improves agency, causative form or service coordination.
