Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Hear a visitor's purpose and follow a short route to the correct town place.

For teachers: The lesson separates gist from route details, verifies spoken evidence, then transfers the same language into a new final listening task.

สำหรับผู้เรียน: ฟังจุดประสงค์ของผู้มาเยือนและเดินตามเส้นทางสั้น ๆ ไปยังสถานที่ในเมืองที่ถูกต้อง
สำหรับครู: บทเรียนแยกการฟังใจความออกจากรายละเอียดเส้นทาง ตรวจหลักฐานจากเสียง แล้วนำภาษาเดิมไปใช้ในภารกิจฟังใหม่ช่วงท้าย

Your Goal

Identify a visitor’s purpose, destination, starting point, three simple route steps, and final side from two short spoken directions; then mark the route and confirm the destination.

เป้าหมายภาษาไทย

ฟังเพื่อจับว่าผู้มาเยือนต้องการทำอะไร ต้องไปสถานที่ใด เริ่มจากที่ไหน เดินตามเส้นทางสั้น ๆ สามขั้น และสถานที่อยู่ด้านใด จากนั้นทำเครื่องหมายเส้นทางและยืนยันจุดหมาย

Why this lesson matters

  • You can understand a simple request even when the speaker describes the purpose first.
  • You can listen for route words in the correct order.
  • You can check the final place before a visitor starts walking.

1Predict the place and route

Look at the place bank and route bank. Predict which words you may hear.

Route bank

STUDENT TASK
  1. Choose one place for someone who wants to read.
  2. Name one possible starting point.
  3. Say three route phrases from the bank.
  4. Predict whether the destination will be on the left or right.
Teacher Help

Review meaning and pronunciation only. Do not reveal the actual destination, start, route order or final side.

2First listen · hear the purpose and place

Listen once. Do not write the full route yet.

Audio 1 · British English · Amy · Amazon Polly Neural · 13.2 seconds
STUDENT TASK
  1. What does the visitor want to do?
  2. Which place does the visitor need?
  3. Choose one answer before listening again.

Check the gist

Purpose: find a quiet place to read. Destination: the library.

Teacher Help

Play once at normal speed without pausing. Ask for the purpose first, then the place. Do not correct route details at this stage.

3Second listen · build the route

Listen again. Record the starting point, route words and final side.

Route strip · complete the missing information

STUDENT TASK
  1. Write the starting point.
  2. Complete the three route steps in order.
  3. Write left or right for the final side.
  4. Circle one landmark phrase: opposite the café.
Answer check

Start: bus stop. Route: go straight → cross at the lights → turn left. Finish: the library is on the right, opposite the café.

Teacher Help

Allow one complete replay. The learner may write one or two words per box. Require the route in order; do not accept an unordered word list.

4Check the spoken evidence

Open the transcript only after you have completed the route strip.

Audio 1 transcript

Hello. I want a quiet place to read. I am at the bus stop. The library is opposite the café. Go straight, cross at the lights, and turn left. The library is on your right.

Purpose evidence: “a quiet place to read” → library

Start evidence: “I am at the bus stop”

Route evidence: “go straight, cross at the lights, and turn left”

Finish evidence: “on your right”

STUDENT TASK
  1. Underline the purpose words.
  2. Box the starting point.
  3. Number the three route phrases 1–3.
  4. Close the transcript and say the route once from memory.
Teacher Help

Ask the learner to point to the exact words that prove each answer. Then close the transcript before the memory route; avoid turning this stage into reading practice.

5Transfer · guide from a new start

Use the same listening language with a new place and route.

New route: bank to community centre

STUDENT TASK
  1. Say the new starting point.
  2. Give the three route instructions in order.
  3. Finish with the place and side.
  4. Answer: “Is that the community centre?”
Possible model

Start at the bank. Go straight, cross at the lights, and turn right. The community centre is on your left. Yes, that is the community centre.

Teacher Help

Show the route strip for 20 seconds, then hide it. Accept short A1 sentences. Focus on order and destination confirmation, not speed.

6Final Practice · find a new place

Listen to a new visitor. Complete the task before opening the transcript or answer.

Audio 2 · Australian English · Olivia · Amazon Polly Neural · 13.37 seconds
FINAL LISTENING TASK

  2. After the second listen, say the starting point.
  3. Repeat the three route steps in order.
  4. Say whether the destination is on the left or right.
  5. Answer the visitor’s final checking question.
  6. Do not open the transcript until your full answer is complete.
GISTLocal information → community centre.
DETAILSMarket → past café → right at bank → straight → left side.
ACTIONRepeats the route in order and confirms the destination.
Final answer and evidence

The visitor needs local information and wants the community centre. The route starts at the market: go past the café, turn right at the bank, and walk straight. The community centre is on the left. Yes, it is on your left.

Audio 2 transcript · open after the task

Hi. I need some local information. I am at the market. Please help me find the community centre. Go past the café, turn right at the bank, and walk straight. Is the community centre on my left?

Teacher Help

Allow no more than two complete listens. Do not pause, supply route words or reveal support. Score GIST, DET and ACT separately; give one observable success and one focused retry target.

Teacher scoring guide · GIST / DET / ACT

0 · Not yet

The learner cannot identify the place or complete the route after one neutral prompt.

1 · With support

The learner identifies part of the message but needs replay, choices or supplied route words.

2 · Independent

After no more than two complete listens, the learner identifies purpose, place, start, three route steps and side; then confirms the destination without transcript support.

Feedback and retry: name one success, choose one missing criterion, replay only the needed audio once, and allow one focused retry.

คำอธิบายภาษาไทย — เปิดเมื่อจำเป็นเท่านั้น

ฟังเป็นสองรอบ: รอบแรกจับ “ต้องการทำอะไร” และ “ต้องไปที่ไหน” รอบที่สองจับ “เริ่มตรงไหน–เดินอย่างไร–อยู่ด้านใด” ให้จดคำสั้น ๆ ตามลำดับเส้นทาง แล้วเปิด transcript หลังตอบครบเท่านั้น
