For the learner: A clear explanation helps another person understand not only what an innovation is, but how it works and whether it is useful.
For the teacher: The learner repeatedly converts ideas into original spoken sentences before giving an independent explanation and adapting it for a new listener.

Teacher standard: Correct after each speaking round, not during it. Give one communication point and one language point only. Keep claims proportionate to the evidence available.
Choose one useful innovation and decide what the listener needs to understand.
Ask only: “What problem?”, “Who is listening?”, and “What must they understand?” Keep technical detail for later stages.
Choose language for the problem, process, benefit and limitation. Change every example so it fits your innovation.
Explain why the innovation exists.
Use precise verbs and sequence markers.
Give a useful result without hiding a practical limit.
Limit reading to two minutes. Elicit four original sentences, correct one verb or connector, then ask the learner to say them again without reading.
Choose language that shows the real relationship and does not make a claim stronger than the evidence.

Ask “Is this a cause, result, mechanism or claim?” Do not accept solves when the learner can name a condition or limitation.
Plan with keywords only. Your explanation must connect all four parts.
What happens now, and who is affected?
What input starts the system, and what happens next?
What useful result can it produce?
What condition, cost or uncertainty remains?
The innovation is a smart watering system for a community garden. It solves a common problem: plants may receive too much or too little water. First, a sensor measures the moisture in the soil. Next, the controller compares the result with a set level. If the soil is too dry, it opens a valve and water moves through the drip line. When the soil reaches the target level, the system closes the valve. This can reduce wasted water and save volunteers time. However, the sensor must be checked because a damaged sensor may give the wrong result.
Require a first learner version before opening the audio. After listening, ask what order they noticed. Close the transcript and run a second attempt from four keywords.
Give your explanation once without interruption, then answer two relevant follow-up questions.
Listen to the whole explanation before asking questions. Correct after both answers. If the learner guesses, ask “What would we need to check?”
Keep the facts stable while changing detail, purpose and caution.
Use plain language, one simple process example and the most visible benefit.
Start: “This system helps the garden by…”
Explain the complete process, likely benefit, limitation and evidence needed before wider use.
Start: “The system is designed to…, but we would need to check…”
Say: “The facts stay the same; the listener changes.” Run both versions before feedback. Add the heavy-rain constraint only after the first committee version.
Hide the models. Use only four keywords and respond independently.
No script. You may look only at four keywords.
2: Four parts are connected clearly and the answer addresses the question.
1: Meaning is mostly clear but one part or answer needs a prompt.
0: The listener cannot identify the process or main point.
2: Uses accurate process, cause-result, benefit and limitation language.
1: Uses some suitable language but repeats basic wording or makes one unclear link.
0: Target language is missing or regularly changes the meaning.
2: Explains, answers and adapts independently from four keywords.
1: Completes the task with a neutral prompt or limited support.
0: Needs a model or cannot complete the adapted response.
Target: 5/6 overall, COM = 2 and no zero. Score the first unsupported performance, give one focused correction, then rerun only the weakest evidence.
Hide every model. Ask one unprepared question and add one new condition. Record the first score, one focused correction and the short retry separately.
Can name an innovation but may list disconnected facts.
Can connect problem, ordered process, benefit and limitation, then answer a question.
