Why this lesson matters

For the learner: Short reviews help you choose music, film, art or performances. You need the work, feature, reaction and reason—not every word.

For the teacher: The learner moves from overall identification to exact descriptive evidence, then gives a useful recommendation without reading a transcript.

Audio 1 transcript · open only after answering

Last night I watched a short film called The Blue Door. It follows a brother and sister who find a secret garden. The music is quiet, and the colours are beautiful. I felt relaxed because the story is simple and warm. I would watch it with my family.

STUDENT TASK
  1. Listen a second time and select four details.
  2. Use one focused replay if one detail is missing.
  3. Open the transcript after answering and underline support.
  4. Correct one note with “I first wrote ___, but I heard ___.”
How to run Stage 4

Keep reaction and reason separate: relaxed is the reaction; the simple, warm story is the reason.

Stage 5 · Respond

Turn review evidence into a recommendation

6 min
Work + reaction

“It is a ___. The reviewer felt ___.”

Two features

“It has ___ and ___.”

Reason + audience

“I recommend it to ___ because ___.”

STUDENT TASK
  1. Close the transcript.
  2. Recommend The Blue Door to one suitable person.
  3. Use the work, reaction, two details and reason.
  4. Situation change: the listener wants something exciting, not relaxing.
  5. Say whether this film still fits and what review information you need next.
You are ready whenYour recommendation is supported and changes when the listener’s preference changes.
How to run Stage 5

Do not accept “It is good.” Require at least two details from the audio and an audience-focused reason.
