Equipment setup sequence
Listen for separable actions, noun objects and pronoun restatement.

Classify multi-word actions, place objects safely and deliver a setup briefing that works.
For learners: Classify twelve phrasal verbs, place noun and pronoun objects accurately, repair four word-order errors, and give a clear setup briefing.
For teachers: This B2 route begins with complete multi-word action chunks and their object behaviour. Learners classify patterns before placing noun and pronoun objects, then test accuracy through listening, repair and an eight-action setup briefing.
By the end of this lesson, you can classify twelve phrasal verbs, place noun and pronoun objects accurately, repair four word-order errors, and give a clear setup briefing.
จำแนก phrasal verb 12 คำ วางกรรมคำนามและคำสรรพนามได้ถูกต้อง แก้ลำดับคำผิด 4 จุด และให้คำอธิบายการติดตั้งอย่างชัดเจน
Phrasal verbs behave as lexical chunks, and object position can decide whether a setup instruction is natural, confusing or incorrect. Reliable speakers retrieve the class and complete pattern together.
ภาษาไทย: Phrasal verb เป็นกลุ่มคำที่มีรูปแบบเฉพาะ ตำแหน่งกรรมทำให้คำสั่งติดตั้งถูก เป็นธรรมชาติ หรือผิดได้ จึงต้องจำทั้งความหมาย ประเภท และ pattern พร้อมกัน
Teach phrasal verbs as classed lexical chunks. Require meaning, object behaviour and real setup consequence before accepting a form.
| Stage | Teacher move | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Class | Classify twelve target chunks. | Twelve labels |
| 2 · Noun | Control noun placement and sense. | Sixteen chunks |
| 3 · Pronoun | Repair object order. | Eight pronouns + four repairs |
| 4 · Listen | Recover chunk, object and result. | Two maps |
| 5 · Plan | Prepare an eight-action briefing. | Setup notes |
| 6 · Perform | Score MEAN/FORM/USE and retry. | Briefing + retry |
Decide whether the verb takes an object and whether that object can split the verb and particle.
| Class | Object pattern | Setup examples |
|---|---|---|
| separable transitive | verb + noun + particle OR verb + particle + noun | turn the projector on / turn on the projector |
| inseparable transitive | verb + particle/preposition + object | look after the equipment |
| intransitive | no direct object | The system shut down. |
| three-part inseparable | verb + particle + preposition + object | catch up with the team |
Phrasal-verb class is lexical. Encourage chunk retrieval and reliable dictionary evidence rather than guessing from the particle alone.
Use both available positions for separable verbs, but keep inseparable chunks intact.
| Verb class | Accurate noun position | Not acceptable |
|---|---|---|
| separable | set the screen up / set up the screen | — |
| inseparable | go through the checklist | go the checklist through |
| three-part | follow up on the request | follow the request up on |
| intransitive | The connection cut out. | cut the connection out in this meaning |
When a verb has multiple senses, classify the specific sense in context. Do not carry separability from one meaning into another automatically.
Put an object pronoun between a separable verb and particle; never use it after the whole separable chunk.
| Object | Separable pattern | Inseparable pattern |
|---|---|---|
| noun | turn the unit on / turn on the unit | look after the unit |
| pronoun | turn it on | look after it |
| long noun | set up the backup projector often sounds clearer | keep the chunk intact |
| contrast | plug it in | log in to it / deal with it |
With a separable phrasal verb, an object pronoun must go between verb and particle: “turn it on.” Inseparable chunks keep the particle/preposition before the object: “look after it.”
The four required repairs must include both a misplaced pronoun and an incorrectly split inseparable chunk. Ask learners to name the class after repairing.
Recover the complete multi-word action, object type and setup consequence.
Listen for separable actions, noun objects and pronoun restatement.
Listen for inseparable chunks, one order correction and the final setup status.
| Pass | Record | Question |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Chunk | complete verb + particle/preposition | What is the action? |
| 2 · Object | noun or pronoun + position | Where does the object belong? |
| 3 · Result | setup consequence/status | What happens after the action? |
Accent variety supports transfer. Learners should shadow the complete chunk, not particle-only sound fragments.
Choose reliable chunks and prevent object ambiguity before giving the instructions.
| Briefing move | Planning note | Language requirement |
|---|---|---|
| prepare equipment | two separable actions | noun first, then pronoun restatement |
| connect/check | two inseparable actions | keep chunks intact |
| troubleshoot | problem + response | one intransitive or sense contrast |
| handover | final status and responsibility | follow up on · go through · hand over |
| clarification | likely listener question | Which one? · Where does it go? |
Prioritise listener action success. Replace an obscure phrasal verb if a clearer high-frequency chunk would reduce setup risk.
Make word order support a setup another person can actually complete.
Result: 0–2 Rebuild · 3–4 Developing · 5–6 B2 performance evidence.
Score the first independent briefing by action risk. Give one target only and record whether the retry improves chunk meaning, word order or setup usability.
You can now classify phrasal verbs, place noun and pronoun objects accurately and give a clear setup briefing. Continue through the Dynamic Learning Graph below.
