Inspection sequence
Recover time links, passive states and the actor responsible for each check.

Compress procedures and conditions while keeping the actor, time relationship and logical trigger recoverable.
For learners: Reduce clauses safely while preserving the actor, time relationship and conditional logic in practical procedures.
For teachers: A 30-minute C1 route from full-clause recovery and five pattern families through safe-reduction tests, repair, accent-varied listening and a concise conditional procedure.
By the end of this lesson, you can restore twelve reduced clauses, classify five reduction patterns, repair five unsafe omissions, and deliver a concise conditional procedure.
เมื่อจบบทเรียน คุณจะขยายอนุประโยคลดรูปกลับเป็นรูปเต็มได้ 12 จุด จำแนกรูปแบบการลดรูป 5 แบบ แก้การละคำที่ไม่ปลอดภัย 5 จุด และอธิบายขั้นตอนที่มีเงื่อนไขอย่างกระชับได้
Reduced and verbless clauses make instructions, reports and formal explanations compact. They are useful only when the missing subject and time relationship are clear. If the wrong actor appears to control the reduced clause, the sentence can assign an action or responsibility to the wrong person.
ภาษาไทย: อนุประโยคลดรูปและอนุประโยคที่ไม่มีกริยาช่วยให้คำสั่ง รายงาน และคำอธิบายเป็นทางการกระชับขึ้น แต่ใช้ได้เมื่อผู้กระทำและความสัมพันธ์ด้านเวลายังชัด หากผู้กระทำที่เติมกลับไม่ตรง ประโยคอาจโยนการกระทำหรือความรับผิดชอบให้ผิดคน
Expand every reduced clause before approving it. Name the missing subject, finite verb, time relationship and logical connector; then check that the subject of the main clause controls the reduction.
| Stage | Teacher move | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Restore | Elicit twelve full clauses. | 12 accurate restorations |
| 2 · Classify | Sort five reduction patterns. | 5 pattern labels |
| 3 · Test | Apply actor, time and logic checks. | 8 keep/expand decisions |
| 4 · Repair | Repair five unsafe omissions. | 5 minimal repairs |
| 5 · Transfer | Trace two accent-varied procedures. | 2 procedure maps |
| 6 · Perform | Score MEAN/FORM/USE and target one retry. | Procedure + retry |
Recover the full subject, verb and relationship before interpreting the instruction.
| Reduced clause | Safe full version | Relationship |
|---|---|---|
| Before entering, check the display. | Before you enter, check the display. | time; same actor |
| If damaged, the cable must be replaced. | If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced. | condition; passive state |
| Unable to confirm the reading, Mia stopped the test. | Because Mia was unable to confirm the reading, she stopped the test. | reason; same actor |
| Once in position, the guard should remain locked. | Once the guard is in position, it should remain locked. | time/state |
More than one full form may be grammatical. Accept alternatives only when they preserve the context. If two actors are plausible, the reduced version needs an explicit subject.
Identify what remains visible and what the reader supplies.
| Pattern | Model | Recovered form |
|---|---|---|
| -ing clause | Reviewing the figures, Ana found an error. | While/Because Ana was reviewing… |
| -ed clause | Checked twice, the total is reliable. | Because the total was checked twice… |
| adjective verbless clause | If uncertain, call the supervisor. | If you are uncertain… |
| prepositional verbless clause | Once under pressure, the seal changes colour. | Once the seal is under pressure… |
| infinitive clause | To prevent damage, switch off the unit. | In order for you to prevent damage… |
The same -ing form can express time, reason, result or accompanying action. Require a contextual paraphrase; do not assign meaning from form alone.
Keep the shorter form only when actor, time and logic pass all three checks.
| Check | Question | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| ACTOR | Does the main-clause subject perform or experience the reduced meaning? | If not, name the subject. |
| TIME | Is before, after, while, once or completion recoverable? | Retain the conjunction if timing matters. |
| LOGIC | Is this time, reason, condition, concession or purpose? | Make the connector explicit if another reading changes action. |
Conciseness is not the only goal. In instructions, retain before, after, once, if or although whenever the sequence or decision rule affects safety.
Fix dangling actors and hidden relationships with the smallest reliable change.
| Unsafe line | Failure | Repair target |
|---|---|---|
| After checking the valve, the alarm sounded. | The alarm appears to check the valve. | After the technician checked the valve… |
| If delayed, call the customer. | What is delayed? | If the delivery is delayed… |
| Using the old settings, the result changed. | The result cannot use settings. | When we used the old settings… |
| Although ready, the approval did not arrive. | The approval is described as ready. | Although the team was ready… |
| Once complete, send it to finance. | What must be complete? | Once the review is complete… |
Do not repair a dangling modifier by changing vocabulary alone. Align the main-clause subject with the reduced clause, or restore the full subordinate clause.
Recover the hidden subjects and conditions behind concise spoken instructions.
Recover time links, passive states and the actor responsible for each check.
Recover the conditions, exceptions and purpose behind each reduced instruction.
The accents test meaning transfer, not imitation. Ask for operational paraphrases—who does what, when and under which condition—rather than word-for-word recall.
Give efficient instructions that a new colleague can follow without guessing the actor or trigger.
Result: 0–2 Rebuild · 3–4 Developing · 5–6 C1 mastery evidence.
Score the first independent attempt across MEAN, FORM and USE. Give one target only: actor alignment, relationship, connector, passive/active form or procedure clarity. Keep the original score and record the retry separately.
