Final evidenceTwelve relationships, accurate complements, five repairs and one recommendation
Why this lesson matters · เหตุผลที่เรียนบทนี้

For learners: Label twelve logical relationships, choose accurate connectors and complements, repair five false or unclear links, and deliver a tightly connected recommendation.

For teachers: This C1 closeout extends balanced contrast into full discourse logic. Learners trace connector scope, match complements, repair false causal and conditional links, defend one challenged relationship, and deliver an evidence-based recommendation.

Your Goal

By the end of this lesson, you can label twelve logical relationships, choose accurate connectors and complements, repair five false or unclear links, and deliver a tightly connected recommendation.

คำอธิบายภาษาไทย

ระบุความสัมพันธ์ทางตรรกะ 12 แบบ เลือก connector และส่วนที่ตามมาอย่างถูกต้อง แก้ลิงก์ที่ผิดหรือไม่ชัด 5 จุด และนำเสนอคำแนะนำที่เชื่อมโยงแน่นและตรวจสอบได้

Why this lesson matters

Advanced connectors do more than make language sound formal. They tell the listener exactly whether one idea is evidence, consequence, concession, condition or reformulation—and a false link can make a polished recommendation logically unsafe.

ภาษาไทย: Connector ระดับสูงไม่ได้มีไว้ทำให้ภาษาดูทางการเท่านั้น แต่บอกว่าความคิดหนึ่งเป็นหลักฐาน ผลลัพธ์ ข้อยอมรับ เงื่อนไข หรือการกล่าวใหม่ หากเชื่อมผิด คำแนะนำที่ฟังดูดีอาจผิดตรรกะได้

Stage 1 · Label twelve logical relationships

Name the exact link between ideas before selecting a connector.

4 minutes
STUDENT TASK
RelationshipCore questionConnector family
concession / unexpected continuationWhat remains true despite the problem?although, despite / nevertheless, nonetheless
contrast / comparisonHow do the cases differ or align?whereas, by contrast / similarly, by comparison
reason or evidence / resultWhy is the claim justified, and what follows?given that, in view of / therefore, consequently
means-result / conditionWhat action produces the result, or under what limit?thereby / provided that, unless
exception / reformulationWhat is excluded, or how can the claim be restated?except that, apart from / in other words, more precisely
addition / qualificationWhat further support or narrowing detail is added?moreover / specifically, in particular
  1. Read twelve links in a policy or design argument.
  2. Label each with one exact relationship from the table.
  3. Draw an arrow showing the scope of the link.
  4. Reject one near-synonym that would change the logic.
Finish evidenceTwelve relationship labels, twelve scope arrows and twelve rejected alternatives.
Teacher Help · Stage 1

Require the relationship in plain language before accepting a connector. Advanced range is useful only when the logical link and scope remain accurate.

Stage 2 · Match connectors to their complements

Build the clause, noun phrase or verb-ing form required by each connector.

5 minutes
STUDENT TASK
Connector typeComplement / positionExample
although / given that / provided thatfull finite clauseGiven that demand is rising, we should expand capacity.
despite / in view of / apart fromnoun phrase or verb-ingIn view of the new evidence, we should revise the plan.
therefore / consequently / neverthelesssentence or independent-clause linkCosts rose; consequently, the launch was delayed.
therebyverb-ing showing resulting means/effectWe automated the check, thereby reducing errors.
in other words / more preciselyreformulated independent ideaThe system lacks resilience. In other words, one fault can stop it.
  1. Complete twelve connector frames with the required complement.
  2. Mark each complement clause, noun phrase or verb-ing.
  3. Check sentence-level connectors for full stop or semicolon boundaries.
  4. Repair four patterns with the wrong complement type.
  5. Explain which idea each connector takes scope over.
Finish evidenceTwelve complete frames, four complement repairs and twelve scope explanations.
Teacher Help · Stage 2

Score complement and scope together. A structurally possible connector can still attach to the wrong proposition or imply the wrong causal direction.

Stage 3 · Build cause, result, condition and reformulation chains

Connect five ideas without changing which claim is evidence, outcome, means or limit.

5 minutes
STUDENT TASK
MoveConnector choiceScope warning
evidence/reasongiven that / in view ofsupport, not result
result/consequencetherefore / consequentlyclaim must follow evidence
means producing resultthereby + verb-ingsame subject controls the action
condition/limitprovided that / unlessstate the condition’s direction accurately
reformulationin other words / more preciselyclarify, do not introduce new evidence
  1. Arrange five mixed ideas into one valid reasoning sequence.
  2. Connect them with all five target moves.
  3. Check that thereby has a clear controlling subject.
  4. Reverse one condition and explain how the decision changes.
  5. Replace a vague reformulation with a more precise restatement.
Check the chain

Evidence supports a claim; a result follows; thereby shows a means or resulting effect; a condition limits validity; reformulation restates the same proposition more clearly.

Finish evidenceOne five-link chain with accurate direction, scope and complement form.
Teacher Help · Stage 3

Make learners paraphrase every link without the connector. If the paraphrase reveals a different relationship, the selected connector is false even if the sentence sounds formal.

Stage 4 · Listen and trace discourse scope

Map how connectors move a recommendation from evidence to decision.

5 minutes
STUDENT TASK
British English · Brian

Policy recommendation

Map concession, unexpected continuation, evidence, result and condition.

American English · Joanna

Design comparison

Identify contrast, concession, result and reformulation, then check each complement.

PassRecordQuestion
1 · Propositionsshort idea unitsWhat are the claims?
2 · Linksrelationship + connectorHow are they connected?
3 · Scopearrow from connector to ideasExactly which claim is limited or supported?
  1. Listen once and record the final recommendation from each clip.
  2. Listen again and divide the message into proposition units.
  3. Label every link and draw its scope.
  4. Reformulate one link with a different connector and required complement.
Finish evidenceTwo discourse maps and two scope-preserving reformulations.
Teacher Help · Stage 4

The reviewed neural accents support complex listening. Require proposition units before connector labels so learners do not guess relationships from isolated words.

Stage 5 · Repair five false or unclear links

Diagnose relationship, complement, punctuation, causal direction and scope separately.

5 minutes
STUDENT TASK
Fault typeDiagnostic questionRepair move
false relationshipDoes the connector mean what the writer intends?replace the connector
wrong complementClause, noun phrase or verb-ing?rebuild the following structure
punctuation faultAre two independent clauses joined safely?full stop or semicolon + comma
reversed cause/resultWhich idea is evidence and which follows?reorder propositions
unclear scopeWhat exactly is limited, contrasted or restated?move connector or split sentence
  1. Audit ten sentences from a recommendation draft.
  2. Select the five with the greatest reasoning risk.
  3. Repair one fault of each type.
  4. Paraphrase the intended link after every repair.
  5. Confirm that the recommendation still follows from the evidence.
Finish evidenceFive repaired links and five plain-language logic checks.
Teacher Help · Stage 5

Prioritise false logic over stylistic variety. One precise common connector is better than a sophisticated connector that reverses cause, weakens the condition or attaches to the wrong idea.

Stage 6 · Final Practice: connect, challenge and tighten

Deliver a recommendation whose evidence, limitation, consequence and condition can be traced line by line.

6 minutes
STUDENT TASK
FINAL PRACTICE

State issue → give evidence → concede → show result → set condition → reformulate → recommend → retry

  1. Deliver a 90-second policy, design or service recommendation.
  2. Use at least six connectors across six different logical relationships.
  3. Keep every complement and clause boundary accurate.
  4. Your partner challenges one link: “Does that evidence really lead to that result?”
  5. Paraphrase the relationship, repair the connector or scope if needed and restate the recommendation.
  6. Receive one MEAN, FORM or USE target and retry only the weakest chain.
Recommendation model: “Given that support requests have doubled, we should expand the self-service guide. The initial cost is significant; nevertheless, the change would reduce repeat calls, thereby freeing advisers for complex cases. We should proceed provided that accessibility testing is completed. In other words, expansion is justified only if the new guide works for all users.”

Score the first independent performance

MEAN · MeaningThe listener can trace evidence, concession, result, means, condition, reformulation and recommendation without a false link.
FORM · FormConnectors take accurate complements, punctuation and scope across the discourse chain.
USE · Real useThe learner delivers a tightly connected recommendation, answers a logic challenge and repairs one link independently.
0 · Not yetA false or unclear link makes the recommendation unreliable.
1 · With supportThe chain works after one relationship, complement or scope prompt.
2 · IndependentSix relationships, the challenge answer and the repaired chain remain accurate without a model.

Result: 0–2 Rebuild · 3–4 Developing · 5–6 C1 performance evidence.

Finish evidenceTwelve relationship labels + accurate complements + five repaired links + tightly connected recommendation + focused retry.
Teacher Help · Stage 6

Score the first independent recommendation. Give one high-impact target, then record whether the retry improves logical meaning, connector form or discourse usefulness.
